Can you explain this ??

I woke up on sunday racked with pain in my lower middle and upper back , got a call from Patricia Milner would I put the http://www.heartandsoulexpo.com on the forum? me me me said of course during the conversation I mentioned I was in pain etc etc she said to go up and vist her which I agreed to do.

She got me to lay on a phisio table covered me with a silk sheet with moons and stars on put 2 lumps of rock in each hand and told me to relax, she then put her hands on various parts of my head and back gently rubbed rocks/ crystals up and down my back. Then after about an hour shook me and said " you can stop SNORING NOW"

The weird thing is the pain had gone.

Me being a sceptic I do not believe in mumbo jumbo spirit stuff voodoo and the like but it sure did stop the pain.

Any Ideas please ?? ( sensible ones only please )

I have heard of this practice before. They usually put a little lump of lead in your ear just after you nod off.

As a registered Nurse no I can't explain this the only thing I can think of is that your muscles had gone into spasm because of the position you lie in bed. And by getting you to relax it unknotted the muscle. As for the crystals I really don't know, but would never knock something I can't explain.

Codger.....you seem to be suggesting that before members post such threads they should adopt the newspaper/magazine protocol of stating "Advertising Feature"

Nig, didnt you have a similar experience of pain relief at a market stall sometime last year?

Sorry if I'm getting you mixed up with someone else.

Cheers Nig, have a good day.

RE msg 1, Littlenige: The old witch around the corner has no idea, Nige. But I do hope that the pain is gone forever - although I fear I must doubt that, because you mentioned the use of "healing stones etc" several times, in private and on this board and every time it turned out to be temporary relief.

Personally I'd prefer to consult people who know what they are talking about, they are called specialist doctors, I think. I know there are some good ones in TRNC and maybe even better ones in Istanbul.

If you go to a 'normal' doctor, they listen then prescribe but don't treat the cause. Alternative medicine specialists don't usually prescribe any pills to mask the pain, they treat it. Massage is age old. An even better one is Indian Head Massage but my absolute favorite and one which has a proven track record is reflexology.

Got a pain in your head, they touch your feet. Got a pain in the neck, they touch your feet. Got a pain anywhere in your body, they touch your feet. Got no feet, they can touch your hands! It's all good AND the results last.

Pain is your body's way of telling you of deeper issues. Reflexology gets to the bottom of it. I had a friend who had suffered terrible headaches for years. After a consultation and treatment with a reflexologist he discovered he had a food intollerance! He doesn't need reflexology (for medical rasons) any more but can't eat gluten. He'd been going to doctors for years who listened then happily prescribed.

RE msg 15, Loopyloo: It's called quackery and is as old as the world. In the same range: iriscopy, p*ss looking, healing stones etc. There is not a shred of scientific evidence for lasting results. On the other hand it's usually not dangerous - as long as you consult knowledgeble people, do what they say and take your prescriptions.

PS. Every year many people die because they finally went to a specialist doctor - too late.

Typo. I forgot to add the word 'also' in an important place. Again:

Not a great believer in complementary therapies but I do appreciate that a lot of people swear by them. I'd say that possibly complementary and traditional treatments work well together.

I know what my body was "telling me" last Friday - that my bloody back had gone again

Wicks, I also do "Internet-healing" (Skype). It's complementary to "Internet-praying" (no kidding, it exists!).

OK, think of it this way (in the good old USA): Hospital funding comes from pharmacutical companies so their doctors HAVE TO use their drugs regardless of whether they work or not. Think of it this way (in the UK): The Patients' Charter limits appointments to 10 or 15 mins. each. The doctor only has time to 'put a plaster' on the hurt, not find out where it came from. With prescription prices getting higher, I reckon a weekend at a health spa must be cheaper!

Hi. I didn't believe in alternative medicine either, but I had a dreadful problem with my knee, walking was painful, stairs very painful. A friend in Girne recommended a chrystal healer in the town, I limped into his flat, felt very silly while he did all sorts of things with various chrystals while the "chanty" music was played - but, it worked! I strode out of the flat, no pain, touched my toes, which would have been too painful before, & then marched up the stairs to our flat. Don't ask me what happened - all I know is it worked. That was 2 years ago & the problem hasn't returned. Would I try it again- you bet!
