A good article Martin....but as usual the typical emotive misleading falsehoods..."the houses where they raised their children turned into holiday homes. "

Just how many properties in NC do you reckon fit this scenario?

The majority of Brit holiday homes are new build....albeit on "stolen" land.

But it suits the GC's to promote the idea that their ancestral family homes have been stolen and taken over by Brits.

Seems to be a bit of a debate going on about this on TRNC VO board.

Read the Daily Mail article and put my comments as we all can do at the bottom of the page. In fact I was quite heartened by some of the comments from readers around the world. I try and put comments on all articles I read re cases about Northern Cyprus because most of them are written by people who have never read the history of what happened here. Even if I hear things on TV i.e. BBC World or Euronews I try and ring them - the most irritating statement is always 'When Turkey invaded Cyprus' as if they woke up one morning and said 'I know let us move our troops into Cyprus' - they never use the word 'intervention'.

This is all going to lead the Turkish cypriot president into stopping reunification talks, as he has pointed out himself.

And this oone case can, or will, lead to the closing of some crossing points in the next months/years, especially with the new government.

And if the tc president loses hope in reunification, then there will remain no hope. So, the pig headed gc leader has shown his true face. Firstly, this two faced man said that a solution should be found, including one for the property issue, but now he tells gc's to fight in courts to get their properties back, instead of waiting for a solution, which he attends meeting for EVERY WEEK!

As much as i personally dont believe reunification would EVER EVER happen (and i support this), it is interesting to note how two faced chrystofias has changed ideas, from a solution, to the courts.

every week............every week the tc president has to look at that two faced, lying gc leader.

Although i can say almost for certain that if the British court alllows for UK assets to be seized, then Talat will ultimately pull out of all reunification talks.

" the most irritating statement is always 'When Turkey invaded Cyprus' as if they woke up one morning and said 'I know let us move our troops into Cyprus' "

"irritating" but factually correct - the RoC is a sovereign state and TR INVADED.. ( do check the two UN Security Council Resolutions) The UN were mandated as peace-keepers by both TR and GR - and the "mother countries" armed their ethnic "brothers"..

Of course, the "intervention" was planned months ahead and the CIA made sure the Greek Generals walked into the trap of giving TR an "excuse" to invade and the Brits kept their bases... The CIA and TR had even agreed how much of CY it would be permitted to take..

Did you ever wonder why your phone calls fall on deaf ears? I'm quite sure that there are FAR far motivated dispossessed Cypriots calling.

Canyavuz, re msg 10

1/ How are UBP going to close the crossing points? Will they pay TR's fines for breaking a ECHR ruling to opening them ? Remember this ECHR ruling came about as a TC took TR to court for impeding his right to move freely in Cyprus

2/ Can you give specifics as to how the RoC President is a "fibber", please

3/ Reunification - as two autonomous federated regions in one state is the only "game in town"....

Mark,

Im not saying that all points will be closed. That is impossible, especially with the fact that 4,000 tc's HAVE to cross the border for work, and the fact that gc's are one of the biggest users of TRNC casinos.

They will certainly not all be closed, i agree with you on that, but some will. And by some, i believe that the Guzelyurt Zodya crossing will be the first.

Chrystofias being a fibber - his intentions are a solution for the so called "cyprus problem", and for all of the problems such as "property rights" and "security forces" and "settlers" are to be resolved by the solution, but now this "fibber" is advising Greek cypriots to fight in the courts, instead of waiting for the solution that he is supposedly trying to find.

Clearly, he has realized that he has been greatly unsuccesful in finding a solution, so perhaps turns to the idea of courts to keep his supporters happy?

what's your view on chrystofias's suddden change of mind?

mmmmmmm

Msg 12.

I fear that the TRNC administration is seriously contemplating some border closure.

It is the case that the TRNC has been predominate in its efforts for settlement.

The ROC have without falter dedicated themselves to the demise of the TRNC.

Yes Turkey will be involved in the probable behind doors discussion. After all it is the EU that seem set upon support of its minor member state, the ROC.

Mr Talat must feel disgusted with recent developments and must feel somewhat deflated when he next attends settlement talks.

I fear that the progress of the past 12 months has been lost never to be found. I suspect Mr Downing et al of the UN feel similarly deflated over the ROC actions of subversive deceit.

Well for what it is worth, my feelings are that the GC's have just shot themselves in the foot. No, they have just shot themselves in both feet. They have severely lost the plot. For those that have read my previous predictions then within 6 months it is all going to happen.

Long live the KKTC (as a permanent province of Turkey).

Ah, the Daily Mail. I just love it, Britain's good old fashioned newspaper.

It just represents all our British values and tells it like it should.

No! caught with its pants down, big liars, always were, always have been.

The Daily Mail reporters are a bunch of clever manipulative liars who work to an agenda.

Good reporting styles, great stories, crap truth.

With apologies to all, except the Daily Mail

Lem

I thought the article was reasonably accurate. Can't quite see the link with the Daily Mail publishing a letter in 1924 even if it was based on a fake letter. I agree that the paper can publish rubbish and work to an agenda although I don't think so on this occasion unless you can enlighten me otherwise.

Quote from the article.

'A neighbour came round and said a crowd of Greeks had hammered at her door demanding their land back,' Linda says. 'She said all the land around here was Greek. It was a bit of a bombshell.

'We were in a restaurant one night when a man came in shouting that the Greeks were going to get their land back, and then he made a sign to indicate that anyone who resisted would have their throat cut.'

Where in North Cyprus could you envisage that happening, where was the phone call to the police?

Maudering GCs in the Trnc, threatening residents. I don't think so.

Its bull, dressed up by the Daily Mail. Their motto.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Lem - in a previous thread (can't remember the title) I mentioned that I thought the Daily Mail had "always been pro ROC". Perhaps I was wrong (I think I probably was) and that you are right in saying "never let the truth get in the way of a good story". I rarely comment on the political situation, as I feel I do not know enough about it to make any useful contribution, but, I'll say again, the Daily Mail has, for many years, appeared to have a definite slant towards the ROC.

The talk about Gc's storming into the restaurant sounds incredibly unreal.

One phone call to the tc police would have bought 5 police cars to the restaurant....faster than they would get to a murder scene!

AlsancakJack,

Nice to see your support for the KKTC becoming a province of Turkey...........and i'm more than certain thatt the benefits of it will be major.....mostly economically.

Dear Canyavuz, re msg 14

1/ I'm glad we agree there'll be no ( complete) closing of crossing points - as well as dropping TR in it with the ECHR - it would simply alienate TCs working in the "rump" RoC

2/ I'm STILL asking you for specifics re Christofias fibbing - he has said the route to solving the CY prob is not via the courts - but that the case vindicated - once more - that the land property is STILL owned by the GC.
