We have hired a car in the south on 3 occasions and used Fontana car rentals (very good service).

But there are risks that are not immediately apparent when hiring the car.

1. The breakdown recovery is only valid in the south, if you breakdown in the north you are on your own, I know because we did, with only the local garages or ex pats on the island to help. The garages will charge a fortune as you are a Brit and you are driving a Greek car. always get a price up front from a garage.

2. The Turkish insurance is third party only and up to 30K euro’s. You can get fully comp but is 45 Euros per week. A new BMW Etc in the north costs in the region of £50K to 60K. with this in mind if you have a accident and write off your hire car and the Turkish car you will be liable for all costs to you’re car and any cost over the 30K to the Turkish driver. This could means you could easliy will face a bill of around 50 – 60K euro’s. even though you are insured. My car hire is now from the north.

Dont see the point of hiring from the south, when north is cheaper and, as you said, gc recovery is not valid in the trnc. Plus, you'll have to go through the pain of explaining to the gc that you're crossing to the north. Then he's going to go on abbout the turkish invasion etc.





if you want a good service, try DARK N' BLUE rent a car, or SUN RENT A CAR, or RIVERSIDE RENT A CAR.



south is a commercialized hell hole........hence their high rental charges.
