We are in the process of buying an appartment at Chelsey Village, and they are asking us for £1,600.00 for electricity connection charges. This seems a bit of a rip off !!!!!!! Can anyone tell us what the normal costs would be for have the power connected to a new build, considering that the developer would have installed the cables and internal wiring. Goffer (and Wife)

If you click popular tags then electricity all the horror stories are listed including the latest costs.

Remember you are responsible for the shared cost of connections to the mains not the builder, question-- how far did Kibtek have to go to connect you ?

We don't know how far.We only assumed with a new developement that the developer would have the cables up and running!!

Ask to see the invoice from Kibtek. It will state the amount and you can then divide it by the number of apartments.

I doubt there will be an invoice from Kib-tec. As far as I am aware, Kib-tec merely advise on what is required to provide sufficient supply and then it is down to the developer to seek quotes from contractors to do the actual work.

we paid £2184 for our share of the costs, on an 11 apartment site in the middle of an existing village. So not much extra cabling or posts.

Hi Goffer,

Glad to meet a new member,

We had to pay £2200.00 to have oue electric connected, plus meter charge. If you don't have a Turkish backer to sponser you the cost of the meter is 880 tl. with a backer the cost drops to 220 tl.

I'm afraid their is not much you can do about it. Sorry.

The developer is allegedly strapped for cash,so expect more of this, Goffer.

On new developments don't you not only have to pay for your meter but also the cabling and transformer costs which I have been informed is where the bulk of the money goes?

However, I don't know it was a suggestion to me last year.

We also are in the process in obtaining domestic tariff electricity on our site (not apartments) and have been quoted by Kib-tec in the region of 1000gb plus meter costs. Kib-tec do have outside contractors to undertake the groundworks but the final connection and inspections are carried out by them. We are only a small site so the costs are quite low compared with others.

I am afraid unless your contract actually states that it includes (Kib-tec) mains electric then connection costs will be extra. We have questioned where they get these charges from but are told if you do not want to pay then stay as you are, on builders tariff! Which, as most people know is very expensive.

Your builder will be able to give you the relevant copies of charges, either from Kib-tek or the Contractor. If he isn't able to then you will need to find out why!

The price is a little on the high side for such a large development. Was nothing mentioned in your contract?

Same goes for water??
