Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Wednesday that all the relevant parties, including international courts, should support the constructive efforts displayed by President Mehmet Ali Talat of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Talat and Davutoglu held a joint press conference following their meeting in Lefkosa.

Speaking at the conference, Davutoglu said that Turkey would continue to extend all kinds of support to TRNC.

"Turkey's perspective is to turn Cyprus into an island of peace by protecting the benefits, future, security and prosperity of the Turkish Cypriot people," he said.

Davutoglu also said that all kinds of steps that might hamper the ongoing negotiation process in Cyprus should be avoided.

"All the parties, including international tribunals, should support Mr. Talat's constructive efforts and everybody should refrain from taking steps that may affect the negotiation process negatively," Davutoglu said.

He also said that Turkey considered the Cyprus issue as a matter that mainly concerned the United Nations (UN).

Hear hear...I had the pleasure of shaking Mr Talat's hand at the flower show and thought what a lovely man he was!
