Hi SJW1979, I always use a Visa card which is accepted widely at most ATMs. Buy YTLs (lira) CAUTION. If you go via Larnaca or anywhere through the South of the Island dont get your currency there as it is not acceptable in the North (although Euros may be!) My advise, stick to the Turkish Lira (YTL) Wynyardman

Most places take anything but change usually in Ytl - If you pay in sterling they will use an exchange rate that may not be as favourable as the banks so you may lose a bit everytime you buy or pay for something - my advise would be, use an atmto withdraw ytl when you need it.

Worth checking what credit card to use as well. Some charge £15 for each transaction then a % of the amount plus exchange rate. I've taken out a Post Office credit card as they don't charge a transaction fee.

Nationwide credit card doesn't impose charges either, but beware, this is for purchases of goods. If you use them to get cash out of an ATM they will charge you. Nationwide 'debit' card doesn't charge for cash from ATM's though, so we use one for purchases, and the other for cash. No charges or fees and a good rate. Natwest debit card charges nearly a fiver a go for cash!!!!!!!
