im just curious if all the forum readers are aware or know that here in north cyprus in all the pakistani/indian/asian/ name them as you wish, restaurants, the STAFF.ie,waiters, chefs, glass washers, ect ect , do not get the tips and gratuities that some of us leave.

How do i know you might think?

Well for the last 6 months ive asked each and every waiter in all of the

restaurants ive been into to eat or just drink, THE TIPS GRATUITIES that we give how is it split with the staff.

The answer has always been. WE DO NOT GET ANY OF THE TIPS, GRATUITIES.

These loyal young and old men who work so hard behind the scenes and in front of house in all the pakistani /indian/asian/ restaurants do not get a % of the TiPS , GRATUITES we ,you ,leave.

Im asking myself now the moral of this thread!

Well i feel in my heart now after 6 months research and curiosity and seeing so many restaurant owners putting the money directly into there own pocket, that i would maybe let all know

and maybe in the future, maybe all of us will think twice before leaving tips and gratuities for ,WHAT WE WOULD NORMALLY THINK GOES TO THE STAFF AND THE PEOPLE IN THE KITCHEN.

WE WAS WRONG.IT ALL GOES IN THE OWNERS POCKET

That's outrageous! I shall change my attitude and the amount of visits I think.

What i am saying is actual facts. im disgusted with the owners of these places.ive even asked some of the owners also if the staff get the tips, and yes with a sheepish look they say yes. with hindsight now i know why they give me a sheepish look!

i am not devils advocate. but i feel so sorry for these young and old guys who work in these places who are trying to support there familes back in there mother land.

IT NEEDS ADDRESSING

and the way to address it is for every 1 of us to never tip again at a indian.asian.pakistani restaurant

It is a bit easier to understand (although still not acceptable) if you read the following:

I worked in Azerbaijan for four years and got to know a lot of the local people. In particular I got to know a lot of restaurant and bar staff. Jobs in bars and restaurants were much sought after by everyone and anyone in the hope of bringing some income into the extended family unit. I learnt early on that all staff never ever received the benefits of tips that were left by punters but what would happen was that the staff that pulled in the most in tips would keep their job for another month. I also learnt that it was wise to leave a small tip with the bill but if any of the staff had given good service then on the way out of the restaurant/bar shake their hand and in the process pass over a suitable 'thank you' that no one else would notice.

your 100% correct. but 1 restaurant in the local area were u might play a game of tennis in the yard!!

a english man had a steak in this place 1 night and he thought it was the most beautiful steak he had ever eaten. he went to see the chef and asked if,WAS IT YOU WHO COOKED MY STEAK!

the answer was yes, the english man put £50 note in the chefs pocket. and yes the owner when the man had left went into the kitchen and asked for the £50 ,as he had seen the man give it to the chef.maybe its tips that paid for the 3 restaurants!!!!

That is a true story

Well can I assure yo that we do have young and not so young pakistanis working fo us. They have been with us from when we took the Brasserie and still are today. They waited for us to come back. This really makes me saD and mad. These people give us hope with thier beleifs they send money hom etc. We have never ever taken a tip from them. If the customer feels he should pay for the service they had then beleive me thats where it goes. To this day the tips go to the staff and will alwayd do so xx

Hi again Zero i cry for these poor loves. When they have to do gardening cleaning etc and then work in the restaurant. Then charged rent for living there. And and I know I should not start a sentance with that but to work all the hours in the restaurant it beggars beleive. I love my boys and they are so loyal to us.

im glad you know 1st hand how some of the unfortunate ones are treated ,then being who do not work for u .

its sad that today the bosses of the pakistani ,indian, asian restaurants dont recognise that the tips ,gratuities are meant for the staff, now the owners. do they not realise they make enough money on the local spirits and the food, and should be giving the tips ,gratuities to there HARD WORKING LOYAL STAFF

im not saying your treating your staff in a bad way in ur restaurant.im mearly stating a FACT the staff in all the pakistani /indian.asian restaurants do not get the tips ,gratuities.

how you treat your staff on a daily basis is your business.

but its the customers who choose to give gratuities and tips, which they think go to the STAFF, it will be no more i feel,as i know 100% it does not go to the staff.

i could name all the staff who have afforded me this information. but that would be very inapropriate and unfair and cruel of me .

also riaz. no disrespect. i was talking about tips or gratuities, the thread isnt about the history of the asian restaurants on the island and how they have grown

ITS ABOUT STAFF NOT GETTING THE TIPS ,GRATUITIES THAT CUSTOMERS LEAVE.
