Hi all My partner and I are planning a move out there later this Summer and and are wondering whether we would be able to buy a couple of decent bikes out there, or whether we would be better to bring our own. Any suggestions please? Thanks Lisa

Hi Radnor,if you meant mountain bikes bring them out with you.Although I wouldn't advise riding on the main roads, there are plenty of back lanes on the sea side from Girne to Karsiyaka you can cycle along at a snails pace.Loads of forest tracks and the reservoir at Getcikoy is great fun. I would stress you need to bring your bike helmets, loads of pot holes. If you have room in your container and spare cash why not bring a few bikes out and sell them for a little more, you would make a profit and the buyer would get a decent bike without having to break the bank out here! Good luck with the move, just be positive.

I bought cycle out last may with CTA it was pat of my luggage allowance and no charge at the Birmingham end I just took the pedals off and a nice baggage handler bought it through the curtains at Ercan without a mark on the bike. The biggest pain in cycling is the dammed speed bumps nailed to the road

I have not seen a good mountain bike shop in the trnc yet, however there may be one somewhere. There is a bike shop just over the border not far from Alphamega.

Hi Radnor Definately bring your bikes - I cycle most days and really enjoy it. A bike rack for your car would also be very useful as a lot of the best rides are up in the hills - the ridge road up by Five Finger mountain is very pleasant. Cycling up from the coast road into the mountains is really hard graft hence my recommendation for using the car to get you to your start point. I ride on the coast road most days and have found the TC drivers to be very considerate. Most lorries will give you a blast on their horn to let you know that they are behind you and then give you plenty of room when they pass - I feel safer on the bike than in the car !!!! Happing cycling Regards Paul

My son had 2 mountain bikes out here, they were as new, he sold them to the Bike shop in one of the side roads leading down to the harbour. He didn't get alot for them, had limited room going back so had to sell them quickly.Pity we didn't have internet and Cyprus 44 then to advertise them for sale.

We are bringing out 1 mountain bike and an old racing bike next week. Anyone on the forum flying from Standsted 12.45 flight 502 Wednesday 13th. Does anyone know if there is a left luggage facility at Ercan, as I dont think the bikes and our luggage will fit in our Pinin. Any idea on where we might buy a bike rack to fit on the back of the door over the spare wheel.
