Anyone done this recently? My son has been called on to serve. He is self-employed and stands to lose a lot of income. What and how does he claim for expenses, lost earnings, etc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

If I remember from my jury service, the level of claimable expenses is limited.

So,if he is a high earner he may not recover all his "losses"

Thanks guys, very helpful. He is a s/e electrician so not a fantastically high earner.

I thought electricians were reasonably well remunerated nowadays- am I mistaken?

take note to what Simba is saying:claims form is self explanatory if your son has problems with it the ushers are their to advice and support

He will also be able to claim for travel bearing in mind some cases can last up to 3wks my last case lasted 5wks. he will be entitled to £5.25p per day for food which he can buy in the courts canteen some prefer to bring in sandwiches and still claim £5.25

hope this is of some use

hi,a friend of mine did this and ended up well in,was even given money to cover her Mother to baby sit for at least a month, she enjoyed every moment, seemed a good case, although she could never say,and she put herself down to do it again, and she did, think she was willing to make a living from it,but belive you can only sit twice,

Thanks Spider, and everyone else, just don't want him to lose out on what he's entitled to. He's had a run of bad luck recently, and getting called up to do this just seemed to be a continuation of this.
