Just a reminder to all of you new purchasers. Don't forget to have a Will made in N.Cyprus as your current UK Will is not valid in N.Cyprus. For those who already have one don't forget to update it regularly as circumstances change.

Any Solicitor/Notary/Advocate will be able to advise you but this is a must to be done otherwise when the unthinkable happens you could stand to lose everything as the Government could take ownership if nothing is in place.

Must reinforce the advice from Karen above. We lodged our wills at the courthouse in Girne next to the post office. Whilst we used a solicitor, a friend was able to lodge his wills at the same time so you don't have to use a solicitor for simply lodging your will(s). I'd strongly recommend using a solicitor to draft your will though.

And what does a NC solicitor charge for that? £5,000?

The cost of ours was included in the conveyancing (£650) but that was quite a few years ago now. It shouldn't cost any more than about £75 each. Ring around and haggle. Do as you would in the UK.

We had ours done with the solicitor Naomi Mehmet. It cost my wife and myself GBP 100 each. Probably on par with the rest of the Dick Turpins in the TRNC, a small price to pay I reckon, for peace of mind.

If you have assets both in Northern Cyprus and the UK or elsewhere you should ensure that your TRNC will only deals with your estate in the TRNC and that your UK (or wherever else) will only deals with your assets in the UK.

I have come across a case where this was not done and the person concerned (well their estate) ended up with an inheritance tax bill many times larger than it really should have been.
