Three men walk into a coffee shop and order a coffee each. The price of each coffee is 5TL.

The coffees appear and they pay the waiter 5TL each, 15TL in all.

The coffees are awful and they complain to the waiter, he goes to the manager of the cafe and says,

"they're complaining about the coffee again!"

"OK", says the manager, "give them a third off, refund them 5TL".

The waiter collects 5TL from the till, pauses and then slips 2TL into his pocket.

He returns to the three customers and says,

"the manager has offered you a refund, a lira each". This he passes over.

Now, my question is this, each man initially paid 5TL and then each received a lira refund, so they actually only paid 4TL each. Three 4's make 12.

The sneaky waiter slipped 2TL into his pocket, the 3 men's bill came to 12TL, so plus the 2TL in the waiter's pocket. That makes a total of 14TL, but they initially paid 15TL.

So where has the other lira gone?

Answers on a postcard.

I'm sure their lawyer approved the contract before they bought the coffees? If they pay him another £1000 then I'm sure he will look into this conundrum.

Sorry you need to work harder

They actually paid 10ytl (between them) after the managers refund, plus 3ytl and the other 2ytl was the waiters tip

Must try harder, (was on all my school reports)

OK. Are we convinced they had three coffees? Was there really three of them in the first place? What type of coffee was it - Turkish or Nescafe? Were the coffees black without sugar or with sugar? Or were they White without sugar or with sugar? What was the waiters name who pocketed the 2ytl? Are you sure he pocketed the 2ytl? Were the coffee's in mugs or cups? Are we really bothered about 1ytl? If you are let me know and I'll give you the 1ytl.

AJ.. I know what you are trying to do here. Your'e trying to get us to think that this did not happen and pocket the 1ytl for yourself. Well I think it did happen and I'm not happy with the waiter, he's nicked the money and its not right. They would have given him a tip anyway.

I visited this coffee shop a little while ago and i could not believe the audacity. As i took my leave and visited the latrines, it caught my eye just nestled on the counter and close to the till; there sat the obligatory charity box which cried out pitifully mp's expenses all proceeds gratefully excepted, vat registered.

At first They paid 15 ,manager says take a third off this and your left with 10, waiter pockets 2 and only gives them 3 back so they end up paying 13.

"The manager tells the waiter to take a third of but the waiter tells the men he has been told to take 1 of each"

I think they deserve every penny, I mean, one of those poor MP chaps was down to his last moat!

Now come on, how can you maintain a castle without a moat?

Be fair! they all work jolly hard for our money.

Money! Ah I remember money...

They initially paid 15 TL, were refunded 3TL which means they paid 12 TL not 13TL.

Now come on, basic math, even Baldrick got it right.

I still tip my cap and refer to him as sir, when i see him about his moat. Everything he has done for us and all that. Infact i think he deserves an award and i will recommend him to be knighted Lord Hogg of the moat.
