some of you may know this but most of you will not , just its quite fascinating & interesting. The most multicultural community on the whole island happens to exist on the west coast of girne in a villiage called Lefke , There resides a sufi sheikh ( islamic priest/holyman/mystic etc ) he is the leader of an islamic mystical order ( 40million followers worldwide) many people from all over the world visit their regularly , at anyone time there are hundreds of people going and coming on a daily basis ! when you arrive its freaky , theres scores of americans , pakistanis , british , germans , french , malaysians , chinese , south africans, greeks , turks, swedish, africans , arabs the list is endless , just all nationalities. You may wonder 'am i in trnc' , just wondering how many of you are aware of this ?????

Tommy you are a real shaker - may be we should get together for a chat when I am in TRNC in late July! I intend to stay for a while a look around at business opportunities! Still deciding where to move to - but TRNC appeals to me because it is a unique place politically, geographically and potentially from a business angle! It feels like a maverick place for maverick like us ) LOL )

Hi Sonic,

re msg 3

"yep, been there and met him. Muslim faithful Cat Stevens is well into the dude. And how many people know Cat Stevens is Greek Cypriot?"

Have been a Cat Stevens fan for a while, 1st time anybody has mentioned that he was a Greek Cypriot.

Quote from All Music.com

Cat Stevens, born Steven Demetre Georgiou, was the son of a Swedish mother and a Greek father who ran a restaurant in London.

"Cat Stevens - Steven Demetre Georgiou born on Jul 21, 1948 in London, England "

"On December 23, 1977, Cat Stevens formally became a Muslim and adopted the name Yusuf Islam"

Not sure if he lives there maybe.

Must admit, I always thought Cat Stevens was Greek Cypriot or part Greek Cypriot. Also, most of the 'Greek' restaurants in London are actually owned/run by Greek Cypriots as opposed to Greeks.

He's been doing the rounds of TV/Radio interviews here in UK recently to promote his new album and apart from the fact that his hair is now white, doesn't really change very much. Also sounds pretty much the same. Lucky sod!

Hi Navek - never been to see him, but used to really like his records late 60's and Paul had 'Tea for the Tillerman' (he told me to put that) .

I haven't heard the new album, but Paul tells me that a couple of the tracks are what you might call "religiously orientated" (don't ask me) but quite commercial.

Kind regards.

Hi The-Wicks,

Got the new one,

Roadsinger (To Warm You Through the Night), 11 tracks = 31 minutes :-(

Released 5th May 2009

There are 2 other tracks available

"Boots and Sand" (iTunes Bonus track, featuring Paul McCartney and Dolly Parton)

"Peace Train Blues" (iTunes Bonus track)

Will try some PC magic to acquire them

Listening to Roadsinger at the moment,

so far so good, same old Cat Stevens.

If you're a fan, this album will not disappoint you.

Perfect music for listening to with a glass of wine

and no lights on your balcony,

watching for shooting stars, satellites or UFO's

Will listen to "An Other Cup" shortly.

He is a very cunning man but he will not get any respect from me. We never shook hands but I have seen him quite a few times at very close range and heard him speak. He reminds me of cunning prople, the type I will never trust.

A few years ago some funny noise was coming from the old walls of Famagusta, as if somebody was breathing with a loud voice. People became intriqued and flocked to the spot from all over Cyprus. Sheikh Nazim could not miss such an opportunity. He came to Famagusta, said a few prayers and finally announced that he got the devil into the bottle and closed the lid firmly. Shortly after that it was found out that the noise was coming from an owl that nested in a hole in the wall high up.

Great PR team though Ismet. Does he do good for his followers. Is Tommy Cat Stevens in disguie. We all have beliefs thanks God but does this man really have people flocikng from all over the world. If he does why hasnt the world heard of him It reminds me of George Harrision when he found his religion in the Marahishi. it must be a very rich village and one we should look at. Got to hand it to him xxxxx

hi elko and lili , thnx for posting on this one .. yes elko i know the event you have mentioned , lol, yes some tc's actually dont have great things to say about him , the negative rumours are plentiful among the tc's lilli , yes he truly has people flocking from all over the world , from peasents to royalty , scholars & professors to mad & insane people , politicians to religious leaders , all types you may find , i have witnessed it. Ive met kings and princes among his ranks , sultan of brunei is a disciple of his aswell as members of the royal families of numerous countries , yes lilli you would think he lives as a king , drenched in riches, but thats the odd thing , he chooses to live in the most modest of conditions , like a monk , withought worldy riches , hes built mosques and centres of learning all over the world , he is actually world famous , upuntil recently due to old age , he was travelling all over the world to most countries meeting his followers,

his order the naqshibandi school , has 40million followers worldwide , bob geldof , cat stevens , ive even met lords of british royals sitting among his circles ... some revere him and have pledged their lives to him , some ridicule and pass him off as a cunning fraudster, say what you will , in any case he is extraudinary , and in TRNC

I know that Abdullah Gül, the current president of Turkey visited him before he took up his office. It is true that he has a world wide reputation and following. Dr. Kucuk, the leader of Turkish Cypriots before Denktash was dead against him and rediculed him quite often in his newspaper Halkin Sesi. On the other hand Denktash appears to be a close friend and certainly benefits from his prayers.

Nigel,

Religion and psychology always go hand in hand. Think of the benefits from this angle.
