I think Nationwide have changed this recently and there is now a charge. You need to check it out with them directly.

No charges Northern Cyprus or Turkey, I have checked this out with Nationwide. Banks don't charge you, I got GB money from HSBC cash machine then went to Exchange for TL, got a better rate than the bank.

Hi hannah-antrim, To the best of my knowledge, Nationwide will be charging for foreign currency withdrawals abroad as of 1st July 2009. But not for Sterling withdrawals abroad. But check with your local branch before you leave. Navek

Nationwide have recently reviewed their poilcy and now pass on the Visa card charge (about 1%) when you draw cash from a hole in the wall in TRNC. 1% isn't a great problem, and it's still competitive.

For gawds sake Woodspeckie has already said twice that charges do not apply in the TRNC!!! Nationwide will be passing on the visa charge to countires outside of the visa europe region. TRNC and as far as I am aware, Turkey are classed as within the visa europe region. Below is from Nationwide website When you are withdrawing cash from an ATM abroad you will be given the cash in the local currency. The transaction will be converted to sterling on the date the transaction is debited from your account, at the rate of exchange applied by VISA. For more information you can view the Visa website. Please note, Nationwide are not responsible for the content or accuracy of third party websites. Both the VISA and DELTA logos are shown on the FlexAccount debit card and cash can be withdrawn from any ATM, bank or building society which display these logos. The Visa charge will apply to cash withdrawals made outside of the Visa Europe region. to be cont'd

Cont'd Using your FlexAccount debit card or credit card to make purchases abroad When using your card to make purchases abroad, retailers may offer you the opportunity to pay in the local currency or sterling. If you pay in sterling, commission is normally charged on the transaction by the retailer. In countries in the Visa Europe region, we would recommend that the transaction is processed in the local currency as the Visa charge does not apply. However, in those countries where the Visa fee is applicable, we are unable to make a recommendation as we are not able to confirm what commission charges are applied by the retailer. I hope this helps Hannah.

cont'd; Link to nationwide page is here; http://www.nationwide.co.uk/search/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=1259 If you click on the 'visa charge' link in the Nationwide link above this takes you to the 'foreign transactions' page which gives a list of those countries where no charge applies. Scroll down a-z list of countries and you will see Turkey = no fee charged. I hope this clarifies things for you
