Hello all,

Can anyone tell me roughly how long it takes for the decision to be made, after making an application to the Council of Ministers of the TRNC Government for permission to buy? All paperwork required has been sent.

Regards,

Patrick.

I applied in November 2005 and was told it would take 18 months. I'm still waiting.

I applied in September 2005 and am also still waiting. I phoned the PTP department and was told that it was now in the hands of the military for approval.

It's the military approval that takes the time. Beware if you live anywhere near an army establishment. You can rent or live nearby for years but ridiculously can't actually own the property.

Thank's one and all.

Ours was submitted at the end of September 2007. Just thought 5 months seemed a little long !!!! I wonder what would happen if a person was turned down and their villa was completed.......

Slowly getting to grips with the NC way of doing things, Glad I asked now!

Over in May/June to see the site, hoping to see some concrete on our plot.

Our place is in the center of Lapta so (fingers crossed) away from any military sites.

If you have the application number, you can check the position yourself.

Hi Tiggy

So long as your property isn't near to any military bases or you haven't been convicted of any serious offence there shouldn't be a problem with your permissions.

Do you need to have police character checks done to apply for PTP?

Yes. You are expected to produce UK police check when applying.

BHW,

you should do this as soon as possible as it forms part of the procedure and will hold up your ptp and your kocan. You download all you need from the internet and send cheque with application form and copies of passport and bank statement to the National Identification Service. You then get your police check which is sent with ptp forms via your advocate.

Hi.

I sent police checks 18 months ago and now have a ref number. I rang yesterday to PTB office and was advised they were waiting security checks.

Can anyone explain this? Not sure what they meant. Gail

Gail, perhaps they meant security checks being done by the army and a check to see that the property is not near any army bases? Everytime you ring you are told awaiting army security check. According to M. Stokes at HBPG the army deny this and report that they process the applications very quickly.

But what can you do but wait?

Yes I thought that was the case. We have got ours already and done everything required quite early on but some friends of ours who are on the same complex as us dont recall applying for them and were wondering whether this was something that would be done by their lawyer as the lawyer had power of attorney - could the lawyer apply for these ?

If you are talking about UK police check, the answer is no, has to be applied for by the person. If I remember rightly the system changed just before I applied in Nov 05. Before then the TRNC police checked via Interpol which caused delays on it's own. After Nov 05 you had to produce the UK police certificate saying you had no convictions or listing them if you did. The idea was to speed up the system! When I check on my application, I'm told 'Police ok, waiting for army.'

Captain Keith you really shoud press your advocate for your application number. We applied in April 2004 and our no. was 850/2004. We received our permission November 2006. My understanding is that there are no permissions oustanding for 2004 but it may be worth checking with the HBPG. If you can get the application number you can phone the ministery direct and they will tell you what stage your application is at. It sounds suspiciously like your advocate did not apply when they said.

Hi Captain Keith

Pleased to hear they are now moving with the times and have email! Hopefully you will now find out exactly where you stand. Did your application no. have /2004 in it?

There was an article in Cyprus Today sometime last year that said that the holdups aren't down to the military but that this was used as an excuse for lots of apps sitting in some dusty in-tray at the ministry. Apparently the Military said there is really only one site that they have a problem with and that is near Karmi/Karaman.
