Hi,

just thinking of buying in Northern Cyprus but getting a little nervous about the land issue and whether title deeds can be challenged in the future. Has anybody got to the bottom of this.

Thanks

Albie

Big subject which does not have a definative answer until the North/South issue finally decided. Lots of discussion on the topic on this forum in the past.

Turkish title pre 1974 would be best bet although I could not recommend buying in the North without lots of homework, and certainly not off plan.

There is a slim chance that some title deeds will be challenged in the future but no one has a crystal ball so in truth no one knows what will happen. However this has to be balanced with many other factors like you are buying at an extremely good price, and even if you have to pay compensation some say it will be at 1974 prices plus inflation. This still works out much cheaper than buying in the rest of the Med and any settlement would result in an increase in value to your property. Don't wish to get in an ethical debate so you should do more research and come to your own conclusion. If you are worried only buy pre 74 Turkish title deed which are supposed to be 100% internationally recognised.

Go talk to Terry Hamilton (Solicitor) he will keep you on the square with Property Titles, deeds etc.In the event (Long Term) that you need to compensate, it will be for the land only, and if you are in an apartment block with others, you will only have to pay an equal share.

Hope this helps

Albie, Isn't Thalassa beach Turkish title anyway? So there would be no risk.
