I assume most members know about Skype, http://www.skype.com

I have spoken to a few people who are on the Island on holiday etc,

about Skype, some have never heard of it!

Basically it's software that can be downloaded FREE to your PC or laptop,

which enables to make free telephone & video calls to to other PC/laptop users.

Great for seeing family etc, while you're away.

Also, if you subscribe you can phone landlines & mobiles

anywhere in the world at very little cost.

We also have bought a local telephone number in UK,

which enables friends and family to phone us, when PC/laptop is running,

either at local rates or free, if they have "Local Calls Free" with their UK phone provider!

For more info http://about.skype.com/

We've had it for some time, couldn't live without it

If you already have Skype, what do you think of it?

Let others know of it's benefits

Or is there a better system?

Navek

Izzet Note - I've changed the subject from "free - free - free". Please use more descriptive subjects. Thanks.

Used Skype for abouth 18months, we keep in contact by web cam on a weekly basis with our friend Ali in Ozancoy, we send photos to one another and at Birthdays instead of posting cards we send them by attaching to the message, easy.

I use skype if I want to use a webcam as it is very good, but I find that voip stunt is as good, but calls are free to most landlines over the world for 120 days everytime you top up the account which as to date have not used 1 euro yet. Also MSN Messenger live is very good and its free with no top ups to another computer and very clear.

Hi Navek

Have used Skype for a while now and find it great and agree with all you have said.

The only thing that I have done is also buy a wireless Skype phone which means that I can use it in any place that has a wireless connection. I was even in the wilds of Scotland where we stumbled across a lovely tea room. The waitress saw me using my phone which she assumed was my mobile and told me that I wouldn't get a signal - she was amazed when I told her I was actually speaking to my friend in St Lucia via my Skype phone!! The one I have is a Belkin wifi which has served me well but I know there are others on the market.

I have used skype for ages and its great I speak to my family in Thailand as clear as if they were down the road and friends and family in the UK.

I just credit my skype account as I sometimes like to speak to people on mobiles if they are not on the net. but its still a lot cheaper.

Its a MUST wouldnt be without it.

Wrong, voipwise was free to UK landlines but now charge and very bad quality but maybe I over used my allowance! Skype to skype is okay but useless to other telephone providers/receivers/severs when one is paying! However, all very cheap so here's to crackling breaking phone calls and who really wants to hear my dulcet tones!!

I use skype to ring my family and friends in uk, some of which have skype themselves so the calls are free and for the others who do not have skype they have registered with 18866.com and because my skype number is a uk number it only costs them 5p connection fee which is the basic charge to a UK land line and we can chat for as long as we like, or should I say for as long as 3G will allow me!

Mobivox is even better, and you don't even need a PC or Laptop, all you need is a phone (mobile or fixed line).

If you can get a mobile signal from the GC side it is easy, once you are registered with Mobivox.com (you can use an Internet Cafe to do that) you just dial a local call to 25025045.

I was using skype when I first got 3G but now due to the poor signal strength I can no longer use it. Is anyone else having that problem?

All I can think of is run out of your existing credit and start again using another email/skype address.
