lavender oil, i usually put a drop on a wet cotton bud and apply to the bite - itch gone in seconds - also this is anti inflammatory aswell as an anti septic so will help the bite to go away quickly too

Prevention better than cure.

if all the family susceptible to bites start taking Vitimin B Compex daily and use a spray like Jungle Formula befor going out in the evenings. A little vinegar on the bite or some toothpaste will take the itch out for now.

I use all of the above remedies, also tea tree oil [from Body shop UK] although there must be some in the TRNC ,just haven't looked. At present have been using Stilex Jel,it's keeping the swelling down, bought here in Alsancak chemist.

Due to all the rain we had and now being humid our TC neighbours have told us there will be millions of the dreaded mossie's.

The Mossie man might even be working overtime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously somethings work better than others but I have found without doubt that if you cut the top off a lemon so you can see the inside slide it over the bite a few times and in about 10-15 minutes the itchiness has gone. This is the only thing I use its the cheapest and the best. When the top of the lemon has dried up cut another slice off and start again.

The other thing my local chemist suggested was Brewers Yeast tablets which woulds make sense as last year there was a lot in the papers about mozzies hating Marmite which has the same base

Hi Simbas,

I am really prone to mossie and sandfly bites and have tried numerous repellants, including Vitamin B1 and Brewers Yeast tablets to no avail. They still bite me!!!

Due to this fact I have a bag full of after bite lotions, creams, gels, oils and also try the natural approach, aloe vera worked ok for me. HOWEVER I am now the proud owner of a zapper and YES the result is instant and if it starts to itch again later then another zap stops it. It is excellent and the bites dont hang around due to the fact I am not constantly scratching them.

I would recommend!!

Hi all,

I have heard that if you put some listerine in a spray bottle and spray around the table and chairs where you are eating. The mozzies and biters stay clear of the area, I haven't tried this yet but I know someone who has said it definitely works.

We second what whistler said. Anthisan cream. It's brilliant, especially if you can put some on as soon as you are bitten. Stops the itching and also stops the bite turning into a sore.

Hi

I got one of those little devices that give you tiny eletric shocks. Bought from Boots, very cheap, with keyring attachment. Yellow, looks a bit like a whistle. Definately stops the itching for quie some time.

Hi I visit the chemist near supreme shop at chatalkoy, have an injection for 10 lira, every month until October, the pesky things still get you, but no itchiness or swelling, it is well worth it.

Haven't heard of that one chatterbox. Is this the first year you have done this? Would be interested to hear of anyone else who has had the injection.
