Recently bought paint (Dulux) exterior paint form the south and unless it was on special offer it would have worked out the same price as the equivalent sold at Tayf. (The equivalent is trimetal which owns Dulux made in the same factory.)

Hammerite was cheaper hear by about 12 euros a tin 2.5 l.

Went to Carrefour and found fruit and veg in some cases was more expensive.

Our boys buy cereal now and again and we purchased frosted wheats at carrefour four 4.50 euros and the same thing was on sale at Lemar for 5.50 tl almost half price.

Unless its something I cant get here I dont really think its worth the daytrip to the south together with the price of insurance, long journey and the attitude of some of the GCs.

I know we are way behind with other things like car tax, electric and interent but its a start.

My family Loves sushi, I use to buy all the bits to make it in the south, but now lemar sells it cheaper then the south and Hur Deniz sells all my favourite Chinese sauces again cheaper then the south in some cases by a lot. Also bought some Avacados from the south that looked lovely they cost the same as here, but had no flavour. Won't bother again.

I have also talked to quiet a few English living in the south who come over here to buy their food items as they say it got so expensive to buy basics there now.

Nothing like a bit of competition to bring prices down!

The problem is the Euro/pound exchange rate....this is the main reason of the higher prices in the south!!!

I think this will also have a dramatic effect on there tourist industry for this year.

People are going on holiday to non EURO/USD destinations due to currency. I've read a number of articles about Turkey being one of the chosen destinations. Heres one: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/3980853/Britons-head-further-afield-for-holidays-to-avoid-expensive-Euro-zone.html

I've also seen adverts from tour operators to North Cyprus advertising "EURO Free Zone".

Hi ataturk,

i stopped doing most my shopping in the south about a year ago when I realised how much I was spending and taking into account the insurance, time, fuel costs, depreciation on the car .... it just isn't worth it.

We may get insurance and go over but not regularly anymore.
