the croissaunt , was invented after the bottle of poiters 732 , charles martel finally defeated the muslim onslaught which after starting in arabia , swept east to china and west through north africa into spain then nearly as far as paris , it marked the furthest incursion into europe and many believe had this important battle not been one all of europe would have fallen , the croissant therefore signified the eating of the islamic crescent , marking this important event

In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts.... So in old England , when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them 'Mind your pints and quarts, and settle down.'

It's where we get the phrase 'mind your P's and Q's'

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.

Even better, but Mead though honey based is not an ale, more of a liqueur.

To be fair to Jetski, I think there are two competing theories amongst the scholars of pastry as to the origins of the croissant. There is one theory that it was created by the Poles to celebrate the victory of Christendom in the Battle of Tours(poiters) and the other, as you point out, is that the Viennese invented it to celebrate their victory over the Turks during the Siege of Vienna.

Regardless of who and when it was invented, I think there is a consensus that the croissant is meant to resemble a crescent (a symbol associated with Muslims and Islam).
