MOS Restaurant Ozankoy

Is the finest eating establishment my wife and I have experienced in 5 years of visiting and living in the TRNC, the decor, ambience and food were all superb.

The owner Mustafa Cerkez should be congratulated and thanked for creating such a fine complex.

We thoroughly recommend the MOS, you will not be dissappointed.

Suprised, delighted, and very very impressed was our group's experience.

A more detailed description and history behind Mustafa's dream can be found in this months Living Mag.

We have no connection with the restaurant and only met Mustafa during our first, but certainly not our last visit.

On the main road from Girne travel east towards Karakum, Ozankoy, Catalkoy, go 300m past the Ozankoy turn off and Erdener Market, you will see the restaurant it is on the right.

Enjoy.

Pleased about this post ,, i drive past MOS regularly , since it opened i always wondered about it , Will it work , was it too ambitious , unusual location 3rd floor ( if you count mezzanine as a floor ) , always none or very few people there ( at the times i drove past ) , Yes a business sometimes takes time to get noticed , create a customer base , posts like this one helps this. I am now also encouraged to visit this place sooner rather than later after the impressive review ! Wishing Good luck to Mr Cerkess and hope to meet his soon and try it out

As i said in msg 6, we went last night and it our meals were great.

The restaurant is so well laid out the only negative thing to say was that we were the only ones there so it lacked atmosphere but hopefully business will pick up for them and I hope it does as they look to have spent a fair bit of money and they are delightful people.

The 200gm fillet steak prices, which is what we all had, were about 27tl to 30tl depending on what sauce you had with it.

The alcohol prices were another story! As usual, a little expensive ie a bottle of red villa doluca 30tl, a bottle of red angora 28tl.

We are finding it increasingly difficult to find a restaurant that does not carried away with alcohol prices but it was one of our parties birthday so we splashed out last night! We are starting to find that it is better to get together after the meal and have a few drinks at home ....... it is much cheaper.

I am starting to sound tight-fisted but I can't believe the way the prices are going. Eating out can still be relatively reasonable providing you don't want anything to drink!

Its the same here in the UK Scoobydoo.Pay a sensible price for your meal and second mortgage on your wine. They tried to charge us £10.95 for a bottle Chilean Shiraz which we can buy in Lidls for£3.19,so I had a pint and her indoors had a half....We did the same as you and went home and opened a bottle, tasted better as well, knowing what I had paid for it...

Coachie,

mmm....... it always tastes better when you have a good deal.

If the restaurants charged a reasonable price for their alcohol we would have no qualms about ordering another drink or bottle but because so many of them get carried away, they actually do themselves out of further business from us.

Angora is about 8tl in the supermarket and yet when dining out you get charged around 28 to 30tl for a bottle.

I hasten to add, for fear of upsetting any restauranters who read this forum, that not every restaurant is unreasonable with their prices as we do visit a couple frequently because their food and pricing is good.

times are tough - 30 TL for a bottle of plonk and 30 TL for a steak sounds a tad expensive....

Sabor is better value for money and the tucker is first class....

i asked you as i went when it first opened, and i was very shocked to be served instant mash potato and frozen chips.

i thought maybe it would change as they moved on a little.

to spend a fortune on a very nice restaurant as the owner has and to serve packet mashed potato and frozen chips i thought was a real shame.

in saying that the rest of the food i had there was ok.

zerochlor,

The rest of our meal was great and the restaurant was lovely, they have thought long and hard and spent a fair amount on making a good impression but I was a tad disappointed with my frozen 'french fry' style chips. They did give us some roasties and these were delicious.

glad you enjoyed it !

as you say they have thought long and hard.

damm pity they didnt think 30 seconds longer about beautiful cyprus potatoes and just how good they taste mashed or fried!

im not a chip fan or a mashed potato fan .but if served them i do not want frozen or packet.

maybe you should have a little whisper in the patrons ear!

Frozen chips, instant mashed potato might be OK for a fast food joint but if a customer is expected to pay 'restaurant' prices then at least the vegetables should be fresh.

I cant understand why they would use frozen ones when they have lovely potatoes of their own -cyprus potatoes are great and they must be cheaper than buying frozen surely,

It's funny because the "glittering memorial to his late wife" Mr Cerkez is said to be creating at MOS (Living magazine May issue) fails to mention his ex wife and the years she spent with him helping to raise his kids! It's a low blow as he uses his late wife's name as a gimmick to sell his restaurant although he actually remarried and lived a different life entirely to the one he claims in the magazine!

I could not aggree with you more! A confident restaurant owner would sell his place by good food, service etc not by telling people a twisted story which clearly shows how ungreatful he is to those who helped him get to where he is now. Very sad that we have to live amongst these people.

Went to Sabors in Girne twice and was very dissapointed. We went when it first opened up and put the bad experience down to teething problems. Then we went again a few months later and it seemed that they hadnt learnt their lesson. The food was very poor, everyone was served at different times ordering drinks was a nightmare and the waiters were useless.

We have been to Sabors in Lefkosia and I cant fault it. Dont know where they have gone wrong with this one.

Im sorry you had a bad experience but I must say Ive been there as well and it was absolutely brilliant from food to service perhaps you should inform the owner / manager so that they can work at it, it helps to hear customers comments because it makes them try harder.

I agree about the frozen chips, as most of you say, cyprus potatoes are delicious.

We tend to go where they make their own chips fresh. Really it should be pointed out to the restaraunts. They wont realise people would prefer fresh unless people point it out.

Sissy, if a restauranter needs to be told his or her customers would prefer fresh food to frozen then I am afraid he or she is in the wrong business and does not deserve to succeed.

My fear is that we will end up with a far fewer choice of restaurants and paying even higher prices. The cost of running a good restaurant in NC must be horrendous, taxes, staff costs, electricity etc. The NC government does nothing it appears to help small businesses. Guido kindly gave an idea as to the costs on another post. The profit margins must be very low and the temptation to cut costs/corners very high just to stay afloat. With the recession causing us to start counting the pennies and cut luxuries such as eating out, it does not bode well. Whilst restaurants need to up their game with their quality of food and service, do we need to consider that if we don't support them, they will simply disappear?

Restaurants, in general, have habitually changed hands every two years or so. There have always been too many for the marketplace. Sabor in Girne is rubbish. On the three occasions I visited, the food wasn't bad but the service was abysmal. So much so that on one occasion I found myself behaving as abysmally and I actually whistled for service. Got it mind. I REFUSE to go there again but will be visiting Lefkosa ( Cathedral) branch soon.

what's the menu like?

would it be more likely compared to passport, or say, the grove?

are there pastas, classic meat dishes such as chick shish, chick breast, beef/lamb menus etc?

maybe something for the kids like, nuggets, pizza or burgers?

planning on visiting on night for dinner before the family go back to uk, i have never been, and do not want to have the family leaving the restaurant hungry (especially the kids! lol).

I've heard it is really nice, but just need to know if it's for everyone...

Slight change of subject eg restaurants - but has anyone been to the new Russian one near Riverside. We went the other evening and were quite happy with the service and the food - prices much the same as most decent places - and if kou fancy a turkish bath they have one there too!! We will be going again to try something different from the menu - at least some of the things cant be found everywhere else.

I agree that packet mash is pretty disgusting but in France they use a 'puree' instant French brand which is quite passable. Don't know why.

Went to this place last night and will not be back.

Packet potatoes and frozen chips and surley disinterested staff. Waited 50 minutes to be served even though we were the only couple in the place.

My wife and I went to the MOS last week, we were the only two in, this was about 1900hrs.

I have to say that the meal we had was very good and being the only customers at the time we were looked after. Ref Chips > the ones that I received were proper cooked thick chips.

Yes I agree that the price for alcohol was expensive but in comparison to the décor and the view up to the mountains I was willing to pay for a couple of glasses of wine for my good lady. None for me as I was the driver.

If you go at dinner time into the café you can have a coffee a look at the menu and a look at the restaurant then decide.

It is not a place I would go every night due to the prices but I will definitely go again when we are back over in Sept.

Everybody is an individual so try it.

Four of us went to MOS in June and we had a lovely meal. The setting is wonderful the only thing wrong was the fact that we passed it by for 3 week because we didn't realise the restaurant was over the top. The stairs up to it are round the back (or straight through the cafe bit). Every time we passed we didn't think anybody was eating and we certainly missed out by not going sooner! Def. be going back in September when we come back!

We also went to Mos when we were there a week ago, we were very impressed , we had fillet steak with sauces one with salad and french fries and the other with potatoes and veg, the food was excellent the only downfall that I had was the fact that they were french fries and not chunky cyprus chips. The potatoes and mash were very nice though.

I would definately go back again it was a beautifull restaurant with very nice staff and very nice views from it too, cannot fault the place apart from the (chips)
