Dear Friends,

I fly to TRNC via Larnaca Airport and I know I can bring goods up to $200 into Cyprus.

I would like to bring a TV next time and take it over to Turkish side, the question is if their would be any problems and if the TV would work properly in TRNC?

I've heard of problems with foreign TV sets not working in TRNC???

Please help.

We did it too a couple of years ago, also via Larnaca. No problems at all.

No problems with the TV working up here. The only problem is if you get stopped at the green line.

It's not quite accurate in that your TV will work with no problems. If you use a satellite system to watch then you will have no problems at all BUT if you want to watch terrestrial TV then your set may need to get the analogue tuner chipped so that the sound and picture can appear together.

The chipping is a quick job and not to expensive.

Hi fredred,

did you take your tv in a case or leave in a box as part of your luggage?

Thanks,

Mags

Customs at Ercan seem to be quite used to seeing people haul every thing up to and INCLUDING the kitchen sink past them - the years of isolation meant that there really was no alternative if you needed a specific item.

I've seen some really weird shaped packages manhandled through the 'Green Channel' at Ercan, and no one turned a hair!

It may be a little more difficult getting additional large packages past the customs at Larnaca, I haven't tried it!

If the item will fit into your suitcase, then you are only risking the normal 'random' stop and search (unless you look REALLY guilty!) - so if it doesn't fit, consider buying a larger suitcase

Does any one have a 50" suitcase and do you think I could say it was hand luggage??
