What are your reasons for chosing the TRNC for your residency, or investment, rather than the greek cypriot administrated area?

Property prices?

The people?

The culture?

The fact that you dislike Greeks?

The salesman who wouldnt let you leave the office until you bought a property?

Anyone who doesn't admit that property prices was a large part of their decision is deceiving themselves.

From his experience and having listened to his many graphic tales of his era. The North of the island and him having witnessed the way the turkish were treated by the greeks, the people. Dad was right.

We have been coming to the north 19 years, loved it. We went to the south in 2004, to compare. Bought in TRNC 2005, no choice. I still think whatever the outcome we picked the right side of the island.

Having bought - We now sit in quicksand up to our necks and wait our fate........

There are positives and negitives on both sides. You will always find on forums whether it is north or south people slate off the the other side. It will be what you feel comfortable with within yourselves.

I love the north but bought in the south just because i didnt want the hassel of getting a permit to buy a property, residents permit cost of buying a car importation costs. But cost of living is lower better beaches in north but your money only goes so far which ever side you are on. What ever you decide wether north or south enjoy your life in Cyprus because it is wonderful and the people and weather are great.

Sorry to play Devils Advocate but by the same logic why not buy in Poland? After all that's where the Nazis gassed the Jews in Auschwitz and its a beautiful country. Or what about Armenia where the Ottomans killed 1.5 million citizens. Lovely weather there.

Ilovekibris....msg 15

With all due respect that is a bit of a contrived non-argument !

I would have thought that cypruschill bought primarily because he likes CYPRUS......and he chose the North because of the reasons listed.

The culture and people.

Property prices.

The (then) cheap cost of living.

The (then) lack of globalisation

Theres less greeks over here, my family is a lot safer no more of them have been murdered since the ceasefire. I havent been persecuted on this side once and this side is a lot more beautiful.

I am a non resident of the UK,i work overseas but can only spend on average 90 days a yr there or i am liable for full uk tax. So i was looking to buy a place and Spain was my 1st choice due mainly to location, plenty of flight's ect.... so we had a few trips over and to me the properties where small and overpriced....so i didn't buy,so where advised to try Cyprus....so we booked a weeks holiday in Paphos and we had a look at properties and the prices where a little cheaper than Spain but not much and really Paphos did not do anything for me. I had heard about the north and the border's opening so we hired a car and set off the day before we where due to go home and drove to the north and as we drove over the mountain and looking down to Girne and it was WOW this is a nice place..

We came back a month later and bought a bungalow off plan in Karsiyaka, probably should have done a bit more research but we were lucky, good builder, completed in 12 months and 6 of my friends have also bought
