Other names for Potassium Hydroxide are caustic soda and lye, but some lye is Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH), and I don't want that.

Hi ingrid.

we did make bio diesel when i was in the uk,as thats why i asked the question, are you making bio diesel.we used to make bio diesel in the UK and there is was very easy to get the chemicals.

here is a small machine for the home,do u have a machine or are you going to do it all by hand?

http://www.goldenray.co.uk/

i suggest you look to turkey for your chemicals or maybe the south

Hi there,

Thank you. I have looked at Turkey and there seems to be no problem getting it from there, but then you would need import license, pay customs and all the rest. I was hoping there was somewhere in TRNC you could get it.

Thank you also for the information about the machine. However, I am planning on starting out by hand, just to try it. Perhaps I will some time in the future need to get a machine but at the moment I have no such plans.

Were you making bio diesel on a commercial level or for your own use?

Now, this I don't understand: What had customs got to do with it? Where you not making bio diesel in UK for UK? Or where you importing the oil?

i really fancied starting a algea farm here really.as we have the perfect weather and from algea you can make a good bio diesel, also algea grows at a fast rate and doubles itself in size each day.

also can sell algea back into the food chain.

6 months ago was selling for around $4 a kilo

has very high omega content

I know... wouldn't it be perfect? It would cost you a fortune to set up, though.

KLM have invested around 200 million to look for a alternative jet fuel.

also bioking were looking for landowners where they could set up photocells to grow algea

So what do you think about growing jatropha for bio diesel? I believe government has got lots of land that they want you to plant trees on.

good idea.but the jatropha tree takes quite along time to mature.5 maybe 7 years if i remember rightly. would be long term investment.i think algea is the way forward to be honest

closer to five i think, but they will produce for up to forty years.

wouldn't algae be a long term investment? You need to buy an awful lot of land to begin with... But if you have the money, yes, you may be right. If you don't have the money, like me, I think jatropha is a better option. Not that that is free either... but as I said, you may be able to get land off the government. They need trees planted, you need land to plant trees on... voila!

also selling if you find the market for it also at $4 a kilo.maybe better!

then what are you waiting for? I think it is a brilliant idea! My only concern was the high cost of land and setup... but if you have that sorted, go for it!

RE> Msg 19,

Using an unmodified Boeing 747, pilots for Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic have successfully flown from London's Heathrow airport to Amsterdam using a biofuel made of a mix of coconut and babassu oil. This is the first biofueled-airline flight.

Virgin Atlantic's partners in this event are Boeing, GE Aviation and Imperium Renewables. The joint press release is after the jump. Advisers on the plane were monitoring the one engine that was using the biofuel (the other three were using standard fuel as a safety measure) and other systems to learn how to apply the knowledge to future flights.

I've plenty of potassium nitrate, whack that in your fuel and your car will go off like a rocket!
