..... Trips start please - any recommendations, because we've heard some rumours that they can be a bit of rip off - what should we expect to pay?? - will the price include drinks etc?

A Sunset Trip will be lovely.

Many thanks - Jackie

Most charge 20 - 25max pounds. Dont pay more. I dont know who does and who doesnt do sunset trips though. The 20 pound should include your dinner which usually consists of, on most boat trips, mezes and chickn or fish. You will probably be charged for your drinks. Again, dont pay more then 3 or 4 lira for a tin of juice for example.

Ones that i have heard of which are popular are Scuba Cyprus which obviously does scuba diving too and Sabrina I and II have good reputations. They are all situated in the middle of the harbour.

i love the african queen - clean shady - loads of room.

if you ask them they will tell you what sort of people are booked in - no good going for quiet cruise with a load of drunken students! or a drunken trip with a load of kids or oldies!

some people say the trips on all the boats are too short - ı disagree - i think they are lovely - the curry cruise is yummy.

the african queen is located at the far end of the harbour near the tourism office - and no i do not own it or work on it - i just like it.

Take your own drinks - most of the rip-offs are due to the excessive price of these

I suppose the best thing to do is actually ask lots of questions at the time of booking - hope they don't mind then if we bring our own drinks - more contributions would be greatly appreciated.

I think you will find most won't mind you bringing your own water, but I don't think they would be to happy if you started pulling out your own beer and brandy sours. It is there business and they are the ones that have had to get the bar licences etc.

I agree with the other the African Queen is a great day out and their bar prices which are on display are very good. Their sunset curry night is 20 pounds and is well worth it, the food is fantastic!!!

As said before most of the boats charge 20 pounds but if you have a group you can usually get a discount.

Have fun

Don't forget to check out their safety equipment , more important than the food and booze. They are supposed to have safety checks every year.

If you are going on the Scuba boat, make sure you check out all of their Scuba equipment, BEFORE you leave the harbour. The last thing you want or need, is for there to be a fault with some of the Kit, just as you put it on.

Also checkout the balustrades on the boat. I went out on a dive boat once in Cancun, where my 11 year old son was given 3 different BCD's, all of which has varying numbers of holes in them. To further complicate thing, we were not allowed to hold the balustrades on the boat, as they were tied on with rope, as all the weld had failed.

I'm not saying that they are like that in NC, but just to check from a safety point of view.

Thanks for the safety tips but we'll just do some snorkelling.

For the best health and safety (NOT!!) then India's the place for sailing trips - what an adventure we had!!!- how they managed to cook a huge king fish (like a swordfish) on a small burner I'll never know but the food and drink were wonderful - the drink kind of mumbs the senses and one can forget about the safety issues!!

jakki - know what you mean about boat trips in India!! We went on a dophin spotting trip. I dread to think how the boat stayed afloat with the amount of people on board.

Still, it was a great day out and yes, the cooked lunch in a little sandy cove was wonderful!!

I can guarantee Scuba Cyprus arent like that!!! I dont work for them, but i do know the owners so although my opinion may be bias, its an honest and truthful one!

Havent been on african queen, the curry night sounds briliant though!! Might give that a try myself!
