| Yet another victim that's fallen foul to the appalling poisoning that's getting worse in North Cyprus Hello We wanted to let you know that one of our lovely rescue dogs, Sandy, was poisoned on Feb 9th by strychnine laced in a bread sandwich and thrown into our garden in Ozankoy at night - the 2nd time this has happened (the 1st was in May 2007 and was strychnine on lumps of chicken) and the third dog we have lost to poison in 9 months. There was also one sandwich left on the pavement outside our neighbor's which killed a cat, as well as another lot in our garden which, thankfully, our other dog did not find. Even a dose of atropine given to Sandy immediately & the fantastic care of Sibel from Pet Life could not save her. Then, last Saturday 23rd Feb, we were walking on Alagadi beach (the smaller one) and our 'survivor', Rosie, found a lump of bone & skin laced with poison. Fortunately the atropine we always carry worked this time & gave her enough time for us to get to Sibel's where she and Emma again gave wonderful care and saved her for the 3rd time - and she's still only 14 months. We're now having extra fencing (and it's already high) and security lights fitted round the house & are even more careful about where we walk, though it's hard not to be neurotic. We do hope your petition and canvassing is successful soon so no more innocent pets and strays are killed. Meanwhile, many thanks for publicising where the recent attacks are and for all the work you do to help the dogs and cats. The only consolation we have in all this is that we were able to give a happy if short life to 3 puppies, and were rewarded many times over, though it's hard to get rid of the memories of their horrific deaths.
