The position of north/south cyprus was raised at Prime Ministers question time today and Gordon Brown stated that the new President of Greece has been invited to Downing Street with Cyprus on the agenda. It might be worth doing a bit of lobying of your local member of parliament to ensure the position of Brits with property in NC is given an airing.

Just read that things are looking up for the opening of the ledra street crossing. If agreed the opening could be open in five days. Now that would be a boost.Would that make it six crossings.

This might help you to see where the crossing is.

The fact that the the ROC officials are visiting with Gordon Brown is not, in my view a good a good sign! If the EU is serious about a fair solution, Brown should have invited both sides!

Hi Milou,

I would still be optimistic as my understanding is that the last proposed solution came very close to being accepted but was rejected by Greece rather than Turkey

I'm afraid your posting (message 16) is incorrect.

It was the Greek Cypriots (not the Greece) who rejected the Annan Plan in 2004 and the Turkish Cypriots(not Turkey) accepted it.

Before any talks can take place you must find common ground that both sides can possibly agree to, you cannot do that with both party's sitting at the same table at the first round of talks.

We have two base's on the Greek side so seems right that G Brown talks to their new leader, and that another eu country talks to the TRNC leader.

To bring about an early agreement that both sides have said is a possibility.

Any talks will be brokered by the UN not the EU.

The Greek Cypriots thought that by joining the EU they would be able to do a deal through them, that has not and will not happen, as mentioned above the key player is the UN.

You should also remember that the UK Sovereign Bases in Cyprus are a thorn in the Greek Cypriots side, they would get rid of them if they could.
