My nana is coming to Cyprus on Sunday and i want to take her out to dinner. I dont drive though and she is staying at Pia Bella. Does anyone know of any nice but not extortionate places where i could take her. Unfortunately we are kind of limited to within walking distance of town.

I heard Set restaurant is lovely, not the fish one on the harbour, but the italian (i think) just behind the harbour in that little cobbled street.

Thanks!

It depends what you want, if its International cuisine, then Sele restaurant is brilliant. Only about 5 mins walk from Pia Bella. The other good one we like is just opposite the colony, not sure of name, think its Padash, but might be wrong. Hope your Nanna enjoys her holiday.

Thanks very much! I hadnt thought about the type of cuisine and its not really too important. I already know the good local places that you would go to for a kebap, but living here, i dont tend to go down to the harbour area to eat so havent a clue what the restaurants are like!

Will look into Sele and Padash. Thanks a lot.

The best restaurant in Girne is Effendi - without question.

Trudy. If you were coming out of the Colony hotel turn right walk along about 100 yeards, cross the road and go down the little side street. Effendis is just along there in the Turkish Quarter.

Efendi is a couple minuites from Sele.If you eat at Sele ask Ali or Zen they will point you in right direction.

Sele is also very good for Sunday Roast afternoon or evening.

message 6. Yes that is the one I mean. We eat there everytime we are in Kyrenia. as you say it is lovely sitting in that courtyard. We also like Kyrenia Tavern, just abit further towards the Turkish quarter. Everything freshly cooked by a lovely elderly turkish lady, helped by her husband. Have heard alot about Effendi's and it is on our 'must go to' this year

I possibly know of the one with the courtyard, the more i think about it, the more familiar it sounds. I remember it to be very good, though it was years ago when i went if its the one im thinking of.

Still, will defiinitely try Sele and effendi out too.

How much are we looking at for a meal here by the way? Dont want to get there to find out it costs a fortune! Not that im a cheapskate haha just want to make sure i take enough!!

Hi Trudy, you should pop in to see us at The Old Grapevine, just up from the Coloney. We're set in a lovely courtyard, and have a lovely mixture of cuisine. If you'd like to book a table or would just like some more information then please do not hesitate to call us on 0392 815 2496.

Have a lovely holiday with your nana, and hopefully we'll see you one evening.

Hi Trudy, Yes I forgot about the Grapevine. Good food, great atmosphere and nice people. We actually got engaged there many years ago whilst over on holiday and like to pop in each time we are there. Not sure on prices because we didn't manage to get over last year, probably middle of the range. Looking forward to August when we will be back again.

I liked the Grapevine although I understand it is under new ownership/management? Has the menu changed? Do you have a website with the menu/prices by any chance?

Hi Hector, the ownership hasn't changed in the last 3years, Enver is still behind the bar making sure everyone is happy. Unfortuantely our website is not up and running at the moment but we are working on it. If you would like to email me on oldgrapevine@yahoo.co.uk then i'll be able to send you a few sample menu's for you. The menu is pretty much the same, with our famous steaks, and steak pie but there are a few extras on there.

Aysesdaddy, its nice to hear stories about people getting engaged at the restaurant, it is becoming a regular occurance.

Hopefully we'll see you both there during your hols.

Nice one thanks guys. Me and Nana are going to have a ball going round all these restaurants haha!

I shall give The Gravevine a go too then. My mum used to have a caff called The Grapevine in Scotland he he! So the winners seem to be, Sele, Effendi, Padisah and Grapvine...

Grumpy Grouse, i have seen in passing, but would be too far out for me to get to.

For a snack or breakfast, try Molly's place or for the best pide in Girne try Mersin Tantuni next door. All within 3- 5 mins walk of Pia Bella

Efendi's is really good but if you are near to Alsancak then Guido's is well worth a visit.

I have no connection with the above restaurants just enjoy good food.

Hi Trudy like Bill i love Efendis my favourite when Im not working along with drangon at the rocks. So much choice now. If you like fish then the Lagoon is good owned by Nazis. If you venture as far as Alsancak then please try us http://www.guidosbistro.com The grapevine still remains on my list of favourites as we used to own it and the chef was trainrd by Guido. I beleive Cliff and Kaye Morgan have opened a restaurant at thier beautiful home Cazanade house. That will be well worth a trip as she is the most taleneted chef xxxxxFood for thought

It is true that service plays a very important role in the running of a restaurant. Personnally, i really agree that restaurant should try it's best to offer customer prompt and convinient service. Customer usually become impatient when they can't get timely service, and they have to cry out loudly or keep waving hands, restaurant calling system can help to solve this problem, it includs buttons that placed on tables, and display sreen carried by waiters, when customers need service he just need to press buttons and then waiters will receive it. You can find the similar products on website such as http://www.finyelectronics.com

Walking distance of 'Pia Bella'

Try 'Chopsticks' 10 mins walk from Pia Bella. I think it's the best Chinese Restaurant in North and from an amazingly small kitchen. the worst waiter in the world but it's all great fun !!!!
