Hi Folks Had an interesting chat to a vehicle importer at Fama G customs today, he says rules are about to change with regard to costs of importing personel motors from May 08. A one off payment of 15% of the vehicles value plus registration fee, has anybody got any knowledge of this, any info greatfully received.

Not so sure you can permanently import a car 5 years old if you are a resident. See extract below from Prime Ministers web site. 9. Bringing your items to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus For Foreign Visitors; Ø You can bring cars not older than 5 years into TRNC or if you are the owner of the car for the last five years. (Each Foreigner has the right to use a duty free car not exceeding 1 year). For Foreigners who would like to settle in TRNC; Ø You can bring cars not older than 3 years. (Each Foreigner has the right to use a duty free car not exceeding 1 year).

You can import a car over 5 years (if you can prove that you have owned the car for over 5 years). I recently brought in my old M reg Land rover with no problems, but still haven't sorted the tax or registration, as I'm also confused about the process and amounts etc!

The Prime Ministry site and link is: http://www.trncproperty.eu/index.php?men=413&submen=372 see point 9. The inference is that only visitors can bring 5 year old cars in. If the duties are not paid after 12 months the car must leave the country.
