I would not be at all surprised if the bright lights from Guzelyali are visable from Turkey's coastline. the search light must be visable on the space station

We are on the coast at Karsiyaka and were also wondering last night what the lights were - never seen them in that spot before..... and none of the other village lights we can normally see on a clear night were visible.

This morning, in the haze, we can just see two tugs so we're wondering if there's a platform or something being constructed? Anyone have any ideas?

My husband was out early with the dog this morning before sunrise and he said it's boats because he could make out the shape (he thought there were about 6) and one moved off whilst he was looking.

The bright lights that you can see north of Karsiyaka on the Turkish coastline are in fact the suns reflection bouncing of a large commercial agricultural green house that as far as I am aware grow strawberries and tropical flowers, there are only a few days each year when the sun sets in exactly the right location for its beams to hit the glass and reflect towards the TRNC coastline.

Thats got to be worth another star moderators and Izzet

I asked a local fisherman about this .......

The lights we could see most of the night were from a Turkish Tuna fleet. They pay a lot of TL (about 2m I believe) to the TRNC for a permit to fish a few nights of the year. The lights attract the fish and then they net them. The local fishermen haven't got the gear to catch tuna of this size. You can't actually see the Turkish coast from sea level, and even from 50m up the horizon is only 25 kms away. At Silver Rocks, from where we could clearly see the lights, the horizon is only 6kms away.

I'll get me coat.......
