| A couple of days ago a young friend reported on Facebook that swine flu was seen in the south and soon it will be with us in the north. A few funny remarks followed and then I badged in with something like this: "No need to worry, the Greek Cypriots will not allow anyone to pass to the north except the EU citizens". A young lady reprimanded me saying something like this: "Why, The Greek Cypriots are human as well. In any case, it is an English person who got the flu. Why don't you object to millions of germs coming over from Turkey?" I looked her up and she is the organizing secretary of Young CTP members. No sense of humour and no comprehension of what I wrote. So I wrote back with a short Turkish phrase "Pardon, Bayram Haftası, Mangal tahtası gibi" used when the other side misses the point completely. The phrase depends on the similarity of words: Bayram-Mangal (Bairam, Brazier); Haftası-Tahtası (the week, the board), thus in effect I said the week of Bairam, the other side thought Brazier Board. No response to that one. What arrogant and ignorant youth! ismet |

| WARNING! As advised on a similar thread yesterday, please ignore any email from the health authorities warning of the dangers in consuming tinned processed pork. It's probably SPAM. |
