Why is it that 'rogue' nations have Weapons of Mass Destruction and Britain has a nuclear deterrent? What's the difference? Why is it that parents say the daftest things like "do you want a slap?". Who would ever answer yes?

Good point No1 but maybe it's because some of these 'rogue' nations also stockpile huge quantities of poison gas to keep unruly citizens in line (I'm thinking Iraq in days gone by here). As for GB's nuclear deterrent I think they should be upfront and called it a WMD or are ours nicer than the others and not quite so destructive??

Unless of course the government's lying and we don't have them! In fact has anyone seen one? Perhaps they made it up and made the taxpayers pay for it and they split the money between themselves )

One thing thats always confused me. If hydrogen is a flammable gas. And oxygen is needed for a flame to burn. Why do firemen spray water on fires???????????????

RE 12,13 Not sure is that really confuses you but here is a simplified answer. Ever heard of combustion triangle? This one http://www2.rgu.ac.uk/hrforms/firesafetytraining/page4.html That says to ignite and burn, a fire requires three sources: heat, fuel, and an oxidising agent (usually oxygen). Well, you also need them in the right mixture. Then, to prevent or extinguish the fire you should remove any one of them. Now you ask what firemen do by spraying water?... Exactly! They remove the heat out of the burning material. Sometimes when they spay extremely fine droplets at very high pressure or use foam agents they are also able to separate the burning zone from the oxygen. So what's left is only the "fuel". And regarding the water, wow it's both flammable O2 and explosive H2 its thermal decomposition require huge energy, much more than REGULAR fire generates. That's why you"ll get a vapour, not H2+O2.
