I saw 2 snakes in my garden fighting yesterday. There was a 5 foot black snake and a similar sized brown one. The black one did eventually win the day and ate the other one. I did take some pictures if you are interested and can be seen on the following link.

I live in Lapta. The dog was barking and I only saw the brown snake as the black one was in the shade. They had a fight and the black one took 15 mins to finish it off. I did take a few pictures but they came out blurred as shaking a little. LOL

Well the black snake looks like a Black Snake, what's the other one? Blunt nose with any luck?

tarry67 Yes that's why the Brits brought the black snakes to the island, but doesn't help if you are terrified of them. We had a black one in the garden when we moved in and all the locals thought we were so lucky. We asked our builder what we should put down (to make it go) and he said it would probably like a bowl of milk!

Biggest snake I ever saw was in my back garden in Exeter. As thick as my arm and six foot long - ate my neighbours cocker spaniel.

Apparently the blunt nosed viper is near extinction on the island. All snakes are also theoretically protected species.

Whilst I also have a "fear" of snakes, the ones I've come across, in my garden, seemed to be more frightened of me.

One thing I've always wondered about...

If a venomous snake bites its tongue, does it die ????

Just for interest, the brown snake is a 'Coin Snake' and the black snake is a 'Large Whip Snake'. Neither are venomous.

The black snake doesn't appear to be playing to

The Marquess of Queensberry rules!

Saw a large black snake crossing the road this week, near Esentepe,

app 7-8 feet long, was not near enough to get a description,

and it was gone by the time we got to where it was.

Also had a small brown snake. app 3 feet long, in our garden :-(
