Well here we have it the Eu is 100 % biased in favour of Greek Cypriots as if there was ever any doubt

Foreign Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun has said that it is a violation of rights that the two seats reserved for the Turkish Cypriot Side at the European Parliament has been taken by the Greek Cypriots.

Mr Ozgurgun evaluated the elections at the European Parliament to the BRT.

The Foreign Minister said while the 1960 agreements give a right to the Turkish Cypriots to choose their Community Assembly, the EP’s failure to deliver the Turkish Cypriot People’s right to determine its own representatives is unacceptable

RE msg 1, Littlenige > The full story is here ---> (follows an irrelevant URL) <

=> Mr. Littlenige of course means that he copy/pasted the full story from the BRT site to his forum. The full, copyrighted story actually is here: http://www.brtk.cc/index.php/lang/en/cat/2/news/50437 . In English.

=> Also from that BRT site: "© 2007 BRTK - All rights reserved. Do not copy anything without permission. News Centre: info@brtk.net".

Well it seems pretty obvious that you missed the "point" (Nige/ DC.)

The RoC is currently the legally recognised state in Cyprus - as far as the EU et al ( excl TR ) are concerned ( Annan vote or not) and while there is no solution and folk believing "TRNC" is a "state" ..... TCs ain't going to be represented at the EU:(

YES, it would be great if a solution can be found.

It is very clear that TC should indeed seek representation at the EU table. It may well be the case that this representation must come via the ROC. This is clearly unlikely.

It would be very prudent and indeed likely that the TRNC administration address this issue directly with the EU.

The TRNC is not currently recognised but talks with EU member states is certainly not prohibited or illegal.

Certainly it is both just and correct that the TC populus should have EU representation particularly as the ROC has no interest in the welfare of their Island bretheren.

Question: did the TRNC citizens as members of the EU have the opportunity to vote in the latest EU MEP elections?

Dear Stewart

1/ NC / "TRNC" is not a legally recognised entity - it is legally invalid according to TWO UN resolutions - but as TR is now going to head up the UN Sec Council I expect they'd be trying to overturn that....;)

2/ If TCs reside in the "rump" RoC - YES, they can vote..

3/ The Orams' have to "worry" if the the Court of England and Wales enforce judgements from other EU states and have assets in the EU.

at 1800 local time (1500 GMT) the island-wide percentage of EU citizens who voted in Cyprus was 42.20% and Turkish Cypriots living in the Turkish occupied areas of the Republic only 15.66%.

the number of registered EU citizens was 6,458 and that by 1800 local time only 2,725 had voted, while from the 747 Turkish Cypriots registered to vote, only 117 had voted.
