I read on HBPG site that a March was being organised today at 9.30am to hand in a petition re: the Orams case and the implications for all. Did anyone on the forum take part?

I did put this on another thread last night: The protest to present the petition went well today. We met at the British High Commission to present them with the petition against the Oram's judgement, then marched onto the Ledra Street Crossing to present the UN with a copy of the petition and then onto the EU building to present a copy to them. It was very, very hot! There were about 1200 people mostly Turkish Cypriots. The British turn out was very poor, which was very disappointing, although it wasn't advertised very well. There were over 10,000 names on the peition. The march was very well organized. Sibel

What a shame, seems that despite my requests for removal from forum I am still registered. In that case, Sibel you are too polite!!! The fact that none of the ostriches turned up shows that they are not interested in keeping their home in TRNC. If they had arrived they would have seen they attitudes of a large number of TC residents being very vociferous about the situation. Then there was the brave person flying a micro lite back and forth along the Green Line with a banner demanding JUSTICE. The GC must have been going balistic. If ANYONE dare come on a forum whinging about what may happen after yesterday then they should disappear in shame for not turning out at this demonstration. This applies to most folk I know who just said - "what is the point"!!! Yesterday was the most positive action I have seen in 4 years of living here and only a handful of Brits turned up. I am sure Mr Millet will pass this info back to the Britian!!! MR Brown they are not interested.

I suspect that the only thing that Gordon Brown is interested in is Gordon Brown.

Message 7 - now you know Rule 12!!! I echo your sentiments. I have read these BB's for sometime now and note the continuous concerns residents have over this case and their general predicament at the uncertaintly. I am shocked and at a loss to understand why there was so little support from ex-pats? Is it the case that there are far too many people who winge and moan behind a PC but fail to put their arse into gear at the appropriate time? This issue affects ex-pats so much. As a matter of my own interest, can anyone who actually lives there, has moaned in the past, is worried, and still didn't participate actually explain their reasoning for not taking part? It seems such a pity when some people have clearly worked very hard to make such a statement to the authorities, to be let down when they expected the masses to be behind them. I may not be liked by what I have just said, but it appears to be the truth. T

Hi Tara I echo your sentiments exactly. The are happy behind a screen. Poor loves. Happy to go to the opening of an envolope but when it matters where are they. At another opening. It does affect everybody and this was a chance to show it. All credit to raise this petition and present it. You Know 7 flags can be legal here then thet argue about the bloody flags. Makes the mind boggle xx

Maybe if there had been a free buffet and some drink then the ex-pats would have been there in their droves

Just wish I was in the TRNC at the moment. I would definitely have been there. Hope there will be more opportunities to demonstrate feeling when I am in Cyprus.

Got to say it! The march came as a complete surprise to me - what happened to all the advertising about it then? If you don't purchase Cyprus Today, for whatever reason you have and you happen to miss a quick message about it on one of the boards - haw are you supposed to find out about it? As for people not turning out in their droves maybe it is because there are no "droves" of ex pats that live here full time or could it be that there are lots of people who are just sitting waiting the time out till they have the permanent residency stamp in their passports. Never forget that if you have given up everything in your home country to move here and have no way back, it is very worrying to place your head high above the trench in case the Police/Government just make up their minds that YOU are no longer wanted in their country! Let me get my last stamp and the permanent residency paper and I will be there every time - till then, must remain cautious but still supportive.

Dear David re msg 7 >>Then there was the brave person flying a micro lite back and forth along the Green Line with a banner demanding JUSTICE. The GC must have been going balistic. << Why were they "brave" ? - do you think the Cyprus National guard would shoot 'em down?! Why would the GCs go ballistic? ..They've have been after justice was years, too... :P ;) [ re lack of support] >> am sure Mr Millet will pass this info back to the Britian!!<< The UK can't interfere in civil cases..THE BHC would normally - and correctly - refer you to their website warning and point out the risks of buying on disputed land in "TRNC". With that in mind ..Can someone explain what the march expected, anyway?

Hi Sibel, Sorry we did,nt get to chat, but just to point out that 12 of us were there from the Amaranta situation, we wanted to show this demonstration was for all of us, we thought it was a good march, yes I agree more Brits would have been better. As for achieving anything, well time will tell, I think so somehow. Steve.

The same apathy was present at the protest about the spotlight coming from the Night Club near Karsiyaka. If Efes had been on offer for 2 tl, i'm sure the place would have been full of expats Mark

| We were among Steve's 12, and yes, it was a good march, well organised, with water distributed along the way, which was very much appreciated as it was very hot!! The T Cs also appreciated us being there with them, as quite a few of them came to us and said as much. I also believe if there had been more publicity about it more of us Brits would have turned up, lots of people we spoke to after the event said they didn't know about it, and would have gone had they known.
