Recently opened, 14 is located in the old Turkish section in Girne.

The resturant is contained within a spectcular old courtyard, which

has undergone an extensive renovation by the owners.

As for the food, magnificent is not a discription i use on a

regular basis, but in this case i have no quams.

Enjoy

Hi Kenny I did mention this restaurant a few weeks ago. Kaye is a very accomplished chef and a very good friend of mine. I have yet to get there and hoping to do so on my next night off. I am so very pleased for them. We need more quality restaurants here. Glad you enjoyed the experience.

If its the one with the wall around it, it was called Kyrenia Tavern, then Pasabache, run by an elderly married couple who cooked proper home cooked turkish food, please dont tell me thats the one that has changed

Hi Dawnie1

I am sure it is not that one as have friends that went there last Tuesday and was still the same couple .

I believe this may be run by the people that used to have Le Jardin that is now China Garden... I may be wrong.. I am sure someone will tell me if that is the case!!

Lilli,

If that's the place, I know they were doing some work and planned to open this summer. It's quite easy to find. If you stand with your back to Sele , you will see a side street opposite and slightly to the left. It goes along the side of the mosque. Cliffe and Kay are about 100 yards down on the right, just as the road curves to the right.

As I say, I don't know for sure that this is the restaurant the thread is talking about (Cliff and Kay describe it as a Bistro), but sounds as if it could be.

Thanks for those directions. I remember that place about 12 years ago when Claude and Sheila had it. Spent many a pleasant evening there. Look forward to trying it in August, only round the corner from where we rent a house.

I still can't place where it is. Any directions from the Harbour or is it just too far from there? As I said earlier, I am not over familiar with the old parts.

me too! Not easy when you're relatively new in town! This thread has become like the way the Irish people in small villages give directions 'do you know where Paddys pub used to be? Just by doctor Murphys' cousins' wifes' new house? You know! Opposite Father Ted's favourite pub'...etc etc!!!!...um no I don't!

Directions from a known landmark ie the Colony if poss

thanks!

Hello Nat -From the instructions we have been given, here is the route we would take. If you cross over from the colony and walk up the road beside the garage to a small crossroad. Straight across to the end of road and turn right. Follow this road till you come to the mosque. Go up the side of the mosque and it is on your right just on the bend. Hope this is helpful. We havnt been yet but will most certainly give it a try.

My Son and friends went to 14 Last night, he said it was the best food he has tasted in a very long time

the place was beautiful in through the gates and the setting was magnificent, and

He had Fillett Steak in Hollandaise sauce, Perfect

Quite right as you stand outside Sele's its the little road opposite,

Lovely people who are running it.

As I didnt go with them, but hopefully very soon I will try it, I cant wait

Snakes and myself went to 14 a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night. When we asked for the wine list we were told 'we did not need the wine list as there house wine was very good' It was quite nice but would of been even better to had been given a choice, we know that a wine list exists. We were told that the first three items on each section of the menu were the best to choose from. I ordered a fillet steak. I asked for a steak knife upon the main course arrival. I was told they did not have steak knives, there steaks were the best on the Island and assured me a steak knife would not be needed. My steak was one of worst I have had, I had to remove it from my mouth as it was full of grissle, and leave some of it. I very politely told the head waiter when asked if everything was alright, that the steak was not the best I have had. He said he took complaints very seriously and would tell the management. No one came to speak with me. This is just my personal experience of 14.

It's always interesting to read restaurant reviews. I am never quite sure, when you read opposing views, whether the people who visited and reported a bad meal/service just visited on an "off night" or whether people's views on what is good/bad food differ widely.

There is a very good article in the July edition of Living (the free magazine that you can often pick up at supermarkets). You can also view it on line - http://www.livingmagazinecyprus.com (page 58)

Did you have pepper and salt on the table, or did you have to ask for it? When these people had Efendi house you were told the food did not need seasoning!!!

I have been to 14 on five occasions was ALWAYS offered the wine list and on 4 occsions have had the south african red they have as a house wine,it was the best I have had here in cyprus. On the oher occasion I had a nice white from the list.I find the starters excellent have had the fillet twice it was blue and pefect thye do a fish baboutie on the specials list which id to die for and the slilton withfig chutney and port divine. If I had to find fault it would be in using their children to serve as at 16 or17 they are a little shy at times. If marking out of 10 setting 12 food 12 service 9 menu 12 price 14 and no I am not connected just like my food and appreciate effort.
