Please can anyone help me - I remember someone on the forum saying that Avon, "Skin so Soft" is the best thing fo sandflies. I have found this product which is in a white and blue plastic bottle and its an oil spray - is this the right product? Thanks

Hi Milou, The one you have is the right one, very good for everything sandflies, mosquitos etc. I swear by it if I don`t use it I get loads of bites, ( must be after the whisky ) You can also get Avon Skin so Soft for the bath, which is pretty good. stevie-d

Some people also say that eating marmite works. Unfortunately I've tried everything and still get used as a restaurant. I have found that since we had fly screens installed we can now keep the windows open at night and I'm not bitten by the little blitters any more. Try it all and if you find one that works then I'd say stick with it. I suffered with the Sandfly fever about 3 years ago and wouldn't wish it on anyone. It gave me a headache to die for along with total lack of energy for at least 4 weeks. Luckily since then they haven't attached me but OH had a dose the year before last. Karen

Hi, Avon Skin so Soft works really well at keeping all sorts of nibblers at bay but make sure it is the one in the pink bottle not the blue one. Cheers Hattikins

Hello all - I am the guy who used to get eaten alive by mozzies. My wife found an article that the best way to fight them is to take a vitamin B1 tablet and a Garlic capsule daily (start 7 days before you go). Use Autan spray in the evening as well and I gurantee you will not get a single bite - even in August when the sandflies are out !!! August 2006 - I had Hundreds of bites - August 2007, used the above and not a single bite

Blue bottle worked for my son and I but it didn't work so well with hubby. Didn't use pink one as it was more perfumed. I wouldn't go without it now having been eaten alive in the past and once I used 'Skin So Soft' I had no bites.

Apparently Avon do Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus which contains more insect repellant than the usual product - click here for info http://shop.avon.com/shopb/search.asp . I've never used it myself but having suffered sandfly fever last year I'll definitely be trying to get hold of some.

Avon skin so soft dry oil body spray.......... Definately the blue bottle, (although it looks more green to me, must be colour blind) it used to be called 'woodland fresh' but is now called 'soft and fresh' I wouldn't be without it. I am a target for all kinds of nasty biting things, but since using Avon skin so soft, hardly get bitten at all. For an after bite 'try Tiger Balm', it soon relieves the itching and is available from most chemists, I get mine on ebay...much cheaper.

My way is dont wash or change your clothes for a week before you go and keep it up whilst in NC. that normally keeps the buggers away! plus you get extra room on the plane - two birds one stone lol

Simbas thanks and thanks to everyone. jokers2theright - I am bringing this from the UK and have ordered 10 bottles of the blue spray oil. Although when we were out last September, we used citronella (I mixed with oil) and this did the trick as well but as we're out permanently shortly I don't fancy hubby or me being sick for three weeks. regards

I usually bring my skin so soft from the uk. I've never seen it in NC. I have a very friendly lady who drops off a catalogue and I order through her although you can order online. As a usual bug magnet it certainly works for me.

Avon cosmetics are available in NC but are more expensive than in the UK, presumably because of transport costs to get it over. Karen

Thanks again - I ordered the blue one - I suppose eventually, after being bitten enough, our immune system shouldget the anti bodies so we don't have to continue using it forever - I hope so! regards

jokers2theright It is not retailed or advertised as an insect repelent, it just happens to be very good at doing the job (contains DEET) Mel Gibson used it while filming Braveheart in Scotland.. If it's good enough for him..............

Someone said you can buy this "skin so soft" in NC. Does anyone know where you can buy it? Have you seen it any where? Can you buy it by the truck load? Anyone coming to NC bring me a couple of bottles and I will buy it from you.

I know a great remedy for 'after bites' and that is tea tree oil. I received a really nasty bite from a mosquito last year, whilst on holiday in NC, my whole leg was swollen, and I applied neat Tree Tea Oil. I don't know about repellants, but this definately works to cure. Mind you they say prevention is better than cure!

Skin so Soft creamy body wash - the bottle is very pale green with a Aqua Green top. The Body Oil bottle is the same colour. Must be soft & fresh version. Use the dry oil spray over your sun cream. For evening use b/wash for cleansing and reapply oil spray, the smell is fairly unisex. We found because we use the body wash the smell is also in your hair were you wouldn't normally us oil etc. We have used for about 4 years, brill stuff! My TRNC based friend says she has an Avon Lady (Catlakoy sorry re spelling) so available over here. We always bring it with us tho. Just mind you don't spray oil on to your clothes. jj
