I receive daily TRNC/ Cyprus news reports from international publications via the Google news alert.

This link may take you there:

http://www.google.com/alerts?hl=en&t=1

if not, go to Google and select News then News Alert and enter some key words and your email address. Recommended service.

The famagusta Gazette are reporting on an article wtitten in the star newspaper which is a turkish cypriot daily, that commercial banks are refusing to recognise title deeds recognised by the northern cyprus government.

The star reports that most of the construction on new properties has now ground to a halt.Anyone have any info regarding this,

Regards,

Paul.

The same newspaper also wrote that it is also known that the number of foreigners investing in land and property in n.c. has slowed down dramatcally, and property prices in the kyrenia district have fallen by 40% in recent months.Could anyone on the forum back these figures up,or pass comment regarding the article,

Regards,

Paul.

What can the reasoning be for commercial banks refusing to recognise title deeds and no longer allowing mortgages to be taken out on land? Is it to do with possible reunification or settlement? Is it because builders are taking out mortgages and then can't pay them back? Or they just more perceptive than the TRNC government and realise that with all the negative feedback and poor publicity no one will want to buy in TRNC?
