Given that Broon and the UK government support the RoC and do not recognise the TRNC, what was the point of wasting time on this petition? Do they really think it isn't going straight in the bin with all the other extremist nonsense that goes to No 10 day in, day out?

Expats should be paying close attention to legal actions taking place at the ECJ, UK and RoC as this is what is going to affect them, not meaningless petitions that only interest a minority group.

"They think its all over, it isn't yet" An interesting article let the ROC crack on they want to play with fire then they may well get burnt. Equal rights in this dispute in the words of Jim Royle "My Arse".............

Sorry ilovekibris but I don't agree.

Gordon Brown is down on his backside just now and he will need to curry favour from everyone and anyone to allow the labour Government to survive. This includes not pi**ing off huge numbers of ex pats who remember still have the vote!!!!! He already knows how it affects Brits and whilst he probably won't even look at the petition, as we speak some dept in the civil service will be specifically beavering away trying to find an "easy way out" for the UK when this comes to Court.

The judiciary are independent of the government but if there is agreement that that supporting the ECJ decision is one which will be against public policy, you better believe it that there will be some top level doc winging its way to them with the PMs signature on it.

Mixie

You are bang on with your opinion too many Brits stand to lose, the government may sit on the fence either way just a small cog in a very big wheel. It aint over till its over and he needs all the votes he can get............

Its not just that ...when do you imagine for even one nano second that the British Government will support Cypriots before their own?

I can't see it and the fact that old Cherie has her flats here too is bound to add up to something!

My understanding is that she was paid in flats or apartments for part of her legal services

I agree with ilovekibris on this one. Brown well knows that all is lost for his leadership 7 government and that a relatively few expat votes (who probably wont vote anyway) are irrelevant to him.

He is more likely to have his eye on a nice juicy high profile pensionable job with the EU after he gets kicked out. No way is he going to rock the EU boat. More likely he will back the ECJ judgement to show his european credentials.

Never know he might pull off a real coup & beat Tony Blair for the job of EU President. You can imagine the ear to ear grin he'd have.

mixie,

Do you really believe Cherie Blair would ever have accepted property in the TRNC - of all places - instead of money? She may be an odious woman, but she is not totally stupid to have become a QC like her hubby.

This sounds like a typically ridiculous TRNC rumour which gathers arms and legs as the gossip goes round.

But can that job go to someone who's "psychologically flawed"?

Given that Brewn has got nothing right, since he seized power, The TRNC might be in with a chance.

How dare you? On his own admission he has already saved the world!

ilovekibris,

Do you not remember that this lady has a bit of a penchant for both mistakes and flats in double figures! She had to make a public apology then.

She was a QC at the time too.!
