Hi All Again ... nuisance here

When you enter into Turkey you have to take £10 note??? Not sure if it is true - going on what people tell me??

Is it the same crossing the border into Turkish Cyprus?? I have packed our £10 notes to be on safe side. I have done this trip before but cannot remember.

I do remember having all my cheap goods/cigs/alcohol bought taken off me at the border (upon my return from North to South) - my own fault - should have known better.

Also can I take a few packets (approx 5) of English cigs that I bought in this country and paid full tax etc on across the border or will they be taken away from me??

Cheers in advance

Jay x

Hello Jaydoh,

as a British citizen You are charged £10 sterling when you enter Turkey for a 3 month visa (possibly same for other countries, dont know) there is no such requirement crossing into the south of Cyprus, or from South to North, there is however a limit of 40 cigarettes allowance from Turkish North going south, the Greek Cypriot Customs are very tight on this, but it would be madness for you to bring cigs from UK to take either north to south or vice versa as they are so much cheaper here

However long you are entering Turkey you have to pay £10 for an entry visa

For info, the Turkish entry visa is valid for 90 days. Other nationalities pay different amounts (not sure why). There is a list on the window of the booth where you pay.

Actually it's worth pointing out that if say you were going to fly from Ercan with Pegasus to Istanbul and then Easyjet from Istanbul to Luton you would have to pay the entry visa.

The £10 Visa fee applies to Turkey not the TRNC

If you happen to have a US passport the 10 then becomes a 100.00

hi guys

the tourist visa on entry in to turkey for u.k passport holders is £10 and the duration is 90days not 3 months, and the price changes for diffrent nationals according to the visa agreements turkish nationals have to pay in the respecting countries and if you are traveling in to turkey on a u.s passport it costs $20 for a 90day visa not a 100 turboturk LOL!!!

you dont have to pay the entry visa if you are in transit going to and from cyprus but like what jo said if you are taking two diffrent flights from istanbul then you will have to

jaydoh you can take upto 200 fags that you bought in the u.k just keep you reciept if the greek cypriot customs say anything (if you are traveling to turkey you can actually have 400 because its not a eec country but as soon as you go to cyprus and want to cross the border into the south you are only allowed 200 it being a eec country)

hope this all helps

Two years ago, I had cigs taken off me and my friend, the Greeks arrested us took us to ATM machines in Nicosia and made us give them £1000, before they would let us go, this was at 5.00 am in the morning, they treated us like criminals, we could have been abducted. (2 women on their own). Disgraceful. It would not happen in England.
