I am a shopper, I love to shop and really can't hide the fact. My problem, however, is not the fact that I shop but rather there are not enough/decent shops here in N.Cyprus.

My husband is complaing (as he does regularly) that my shopping bills are increased by my insistence of having to travel to UK, Turkey and the South to indulge my habit. So to shut him indoors up, I'm hoping the fellow shoppers out there can point me in the direction of some decent shops that may exist here. I'm sure I've tried them all and have not been overly impressed...what's your experience of them?

I agree with you happyboots!!! The shops here are not to my taste. When i go back to Scotland, i go with an empty case and fill it up! If you find a good one here let me know!

I do that too! I take 2 empty cases and usually end up buying a third case (sometimes even a fourth!) and then make grumpy (him indoors) carry the lot and pay the excessive baggage penalty!

What is it about the shops here? I just don't get that satisfying feeling after a shop here but when I do I'll be sure to post it...

I agree! Although maybe it's a good thing for me by spending less, however I found a great dress at KAR the other day, seems brand new! Washed it and it fits great and only 5 lira! My fiance didnt have any problems with that! Sometimes if you really look in these places you can find some good stuff, the dress tag is from Top Shop I can only think that it didn't fit the person who bought it!

I can't shop at KAR as most of the stuff in there was probably donated by me! My lovely husband (he's just upped my spending budget so he's 'lovely' now) makes me have a good clear out on a monthly basis (very distressing and period of great mourning), so KAR and various lucky friends of the same size get them.

Hi there HappyBoots, have you checked out my shop "The Dress Agency" we have lots of nearly new and new clothes in stock, something to suit evryone. I totally agree with you on the shopping front, there is very little on the island hence why me and my partner started up the shop 3 months ago, its been a great success.

Happyboots,

All the governments world over are trying to do something to vitalize their economies. You should be given a gold medal for just doing that single handedly.

Hi Happyboots,

I find your penchant for shopping really difficult to understand. When do you wear all of these clothes you really must buy? When I go to Cyprus on my visits, I never wear half the clothes I pack in my 15kg suitcase.

Perhaps you should shop for a good hypnotist, to break you of this very expensive habit and it would really please him indoors.

HaHaHa you sound just like I did before coming here. If your coming from Alsancak, Lapta way you will come to a roundabout when you reach town, take a left there and you will see HSBC on your left, then take 1st right, we are opposite Kyrenia Medical Centre and next to Bayamoglu shoes. We are open from Monday 22nd from 09:00-14:00 monday to Friday and shut Thursdays. Look forward to seeing you.

billyboy1, the tickets are booked those Jimmy Choos are mine God dammit!

Ismet, I am so glad that someone else appreciates my efforts - perhaps you could have a word with him indoors and let him know what I am working to achieve here..?

The Butler's Wife, I have tried all manner of therapy to break my habit, nothing works - except for the time him indoors strapped and tied me down to a chair. Mind you, I almost gnawed my hand off at the wrist to free myself I until I discovered that I could drag myself in the chair to reach the shops only to discover it was bloody closing time!

A clear out every month? No wonder you need to buy more lol, he shouldn't complain! Some of the clothes I wear I have had for years!

Well HappyBoots I for one think you are being very reserved - him indoors should be pleased that you are not off to New York, Paris & Milan like i is - you wanna come with?

What a fab idea! I'll definitely join you on that shopping trip only I'm banned from shopping in all areas of New York. Just a silly little thing: something about "inappropriate conduct for shopping". Apparently wrestling old ladies to the floor in my eagerness to get the half price Mui Mui bag is considered "bad form". I'll look forward to Paris and Milan though!!

Meanwhile is there anywhere else, apart from The Dress Agency, I can shop in this shopless country?

Try MINE in Girne, I like Zara and I think this is the only shop that sells it. Go down the high street, past Koton and its on your right hand side just before the cross roads. I always find lovely stuff in there! Let us know when you will be going so we can avoid going there as I dont think any of us would want to be `wrestled to the floor`!!

Well thanks very much dav88. You can rest assured that I won't be wrestling anyone to the floor as I have been in therapy (the Court insisted I get some) and am pretty sure that the demons that cause me to do such stuff have been banished.

However, you can be sure I'll be buying something nice to wear out on the 18 - 40 bash that I will be gate crashing. I can't vouch for my behaviour at that time: if it's young, single and male I plan to wrestle it to the floor!

Trudy, I have been shopping today and there's naff all about as it appears to be the garish season (lots of bright, traffic stopping type of colours). However, you could try the Beneton shop in town (Girne) for the Khaki shorts. Good luck!

Incidently, my fellow shoppers, I went to Serena's today looking for some nice flowing beach tops and they had some lovely ones in there - at 300 tl a pop! I had to wrench the money from him indoor's balled up little fists and slam his jaw shut as it was gaping open and attracting flies.

cyprusairsoft, you could be right but I'm faithful to my husband's wallet and wouldn't dream of cheating on it!

I thought bright garish colours were in this summer? Seems to be what's in the UK shops.

Not the kind of garish that glows in the dark; awful, just awful!
