I need to get a new POA verified at the TRNC Consulate in London. I remember a number of people have done so but can't find the right threads with your experience & advice. Be grateful for that again.

Would also welcome advice as to getting POA to TRNC by quickest means (other than in person). Thanks.

You need to go to TRNC CONSULATE, 29 BEDFORD SQUARE, LONDON, WC1B 3EG (TEL: 0207 6311920) (FAX: 0207 4629785) e-mail: trncoffice.london@btopenworld.com. Opening Hours: Monday – Friday 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm. Nearest underground: Tottenham Court Road. Whoever is signing the POA needs to go along too. You will need your passports and a postal order made payable to KKTC Consolidate Fund. For one person signing it is £12 for two it is £24. For more than two people it is still £24. And that's it basically. They stamp it and will give you a receipt. You will then need to send it together with copies of your passport to whoever you are giving Power of Attorney to. Best way to send would probably be DHL or other courier as post can take up to 3 weeks to arrive.

We went to the Consulate last week - all done very quickly and easily.

If you can't get to the Consulate then you can post it but it needs to be witnessed by a Notary Public first and then forwarded on to Consulate together with the fee and copies of your passports and the postal order and they then return it to you.

I don't want to confuse the issue but I thought we no longer POA's?

I've sent documents through by putting a message on the forum asking if anyone is going out in the near future?

Milou,

You are right about current contracts and POA's. If you need something new signing on your behalf, then need POA if one not already signed.

Good idea about forum and anyone going to NC soon.

Thanks

Martin

PS Boredhousewife re postal order, will they accept cash or cheque instead?

Yes, they accept cash. That's how we paid.

martin I am going out next week, if you can get it done before then, although I am flying into Larnaca and would hate it to be taken off me at the border :(

You only need POA when registering contracts at District Lands Office. You dont need POA for paying stamp duty at Tax Office and yes the TRNC Consulate do take cash but I wouldnt advise putting cash in the post just in case!

I got Spook to fax me a blank copy of his POA. Filled it in, posted it to my friend in TRNC who paid my taxes and registered it with DLO. No consulate, no notary, just my word.

Thanks Spook

Pleased it worked for you , if it looks official it normal does , what is it that they say b******t often baffles brains , funny though how they need no POA or translation or any extra form filling when they are taking cash for stamp duty but try to make everyone jump through hoops to reg the title i guess thats life in the TRNC

Hi Spook, any chance of sending me a copy of the POA form?

I am going out at the end of the month to register my contract and at the same time would like to do the same for my brother and a friend who is also buying from the same developer. My brother told our advocate that I was going to register his contract for him and guess what, the advocate said 'your brother will not be able to do this for you, we will have to do it on your behalf'

As newboy has already had his contract registered by a friend, this is just another case of missinformation from the TRNC legal buffs.

Thanks Geoff.

Hi Guys,

Be sure to include passport numbers of yourself and who you are representing in the POA and a copy of their passport.
