| This can be caused by over-exposure to the sun, sunlamp or (rarely )to radiation. It can also happen on an overcast day like today.!! Best thing is to NEVER go out doors without at least a SPF30 - 50. SPF50 for children and apply frequently especially after swimming. And never go out when the sun is at it's hottest mid day. PREVENTION BETTER THAN CURE. Make sure kids always wear a hat. Most sunburn is superficial, in severe cases the skin is lobster red and blistered. If on medication check that this won't trigger a severe reaction to sunlight! Move the casualty out of the sun and cover with light clothing or a towel, keep in the shade preferably indoors. Cool the skin by sponging the affected area with cold water, or by soaking in a cool bath for about 10mins. give frequent sips of water. NOT ALCOHOL If extensive blistering seek medical advice ASAP If burns are mild cover with aftersun. Natural Yoghurt or the inside of a melon skin will cool and moisturise the area. |
