My flight from Dublin to Istanbul in August lands too late to get the last flight to Ercan so we have to stay overnight in Istandbul. Does anyone know of cheap accommodation to suit 4 adults and 2 children (3, 6) near Ataturk Airport?

What time do you land?

What time is your depature from Ataturk?

I ask as it may be cheaper for you to get a hotel in Sultanahmet, which is 30mins by Metro and Tram. If you arrive to late, or your departure is too early for getting back to the airport a taxi will prove expensive and staying at the airport hotel will be the best option.

Don't forget, although you're only there for a few hours, you'll need to get visas on the way in. The children should have their own passports. Price is €15 per person. Credit cards not accepted.

Assuming you are only there for a few hours as previously mentioned the airport hotel is probably your best option - we stay there frequently when flights don't agree - you actually enter air-side - so you don't need to go through passport/customs and therefore don't need a visa - an immediate saving of £40 for a family. They also charge by the hour (!) which can be ecconomical if you come in late and leave early - rooms superb.

do you need a visa if you have a british eu passport to enter Turkey. Checked the hotel at airport they are looking €200 for the hours we are there if I dont need a visa I might get cheaper hotel nearby.

If you stay airside then no you don't need a visa and you the transfer desk to check in.

You will find hotels in Sultanhamet cheaper. The cheapest I've stayed at is €30 a night, so including taxis to and from the airport and 2 rooms then it will be cheaper.

Check out hotels at:

Unless you are flying with Turkish Airlines, your luggage does not get transferred for Ercan flights, so you would still have to pay for a visa just to get your luggage and then check back in,

If the airpoirt hotel is total 200 euros for 6, I would just pay the few extra euros and stay there , everyone will be tired and the kids would appreciate going straight to bed. No hassle with luggage and taxi's at that time of night.
