Murray was asked a couple of years ago who he wanted to win the football that night, i can't remember who England were playing, and he said i always want whoever England are playing against.

Re message 6 if he beats Federer he must win, because thay are seeded to meet in the final.

Maybe the English would prefer a "nice guy" like Henman to have won Wimbledon but he was no where near good enough

Murray is No 3 in the world on merit and mentally very strong, wether he is good enough to get to the final and beat Federer .......we will see

But how sad for English people on this board to call him "a Tosser"

Every Brit should be supporting Andy murray!!!

wackyjim Prior to Wimbledon 2006, Murray caused some public debate[95] when he was quoted as saying he would "support anyone but England" at the 2006 World Cup. He received large amounts of hate mail on his website as a result.[96] It was also reported (incorrectly, it turned out) that Murray had worn a Paraguay shirt on the day of England's World Cup match with the South American team.[97]

msg16....This was said in a sporting context, the rivalry between the home nations in a football sense has gone on for generations in the same way it does between local clubs ie, man u / man c what it does not mean is that you necssarily "hate" the supporters. Therefore for you to assume that because he said this then he must of course hate all English people persay is just ludicrous. Yes by all means call him a tosser for being the dour person that he is but be careful not to mix the two,and to be fair to him I think he is trying his best to improve his PR.

bogeyman.

I suggest before you throw that one at Scotland you do a bit more research

We are proud of him, and he has improved greatly. He has got something

that Henman never had. Power and determination. Winge, winge ye narrow-minded

about something he said, (which many young Scots may say about arrogant English) but

he will do well. He has already won the Queens - 1st Brit. in 70 years. A fine young man,

and a fighter.

Born in Scotland of Scots father and English mother.

Have lived in Scotland by choice for last 38 years &

brought my kids up here. I guess I am thoroughly

British, with Scots leanings.

Andy Murray is overtly anti English . In the past he was exteremely foul mouthed and bad tempered though he seems to be controlling this somewhat now. He has not one any grand slams as yet and cannot therefore be looked upon as a great player.

Roger Federer has won 14 grand slams and must be considered to be one of the world's top 5 great players. He is married, expecting a child in the autumn, and is a great ambassador for tennis. How does a certain person work out he is a 'fairy' ? Is it because he is intelligent ,ariculate and a true sportsman.

Let the best man win !!

Andy murray whether you like him or not is the best player the uk has had for decades,to be no.2 in the world aged 22 when the mens game is so strong in depth is a helluva achievement,he has outstanding natural ability and racket control that you just cant teach,he comes out with shots others just couldnt play,ok he's no2 cos nadal was injured, but he's beaten nadal, jokovic and federer, del potro is a dangerman too.I know hes got attitude but without this edge to him he probably wouldnt have been in the top 20,how many "nice"players dont make the grade? its only a matter of time for him to land a grandslam, also the no.1 spot.I love watching him play when his backs against the wall,he hates losing and is so competetive,he's a real winner, whatever he does i'll guarantee you, even if it were monopoly or tiddly winks he would want to win. Great player and i hope he's on the circuit for many years to come!!Sorry if i've upset a few doubters, and no i'm not scottish either.I love playing tennis!

you will always get plonkers like bogeyman and cyprusairsoft who thinks that way I am English and think Murray is great - he has something modern British tennis has never seen before A WINNING MENTALITY think on to people like Gascoigne who liked winding the jocks up, and yet played for rangers why shouldn't Murray wind us up it's his choice, maybe its because some of our lot cant see past the We are the greatest syndrome huh I wish

Message 10 shows just how little grey matter the writer has between the ears, I suppose the scots irish and welsh dont pay taxes ???

Lets hear it for MURRAY cos win or lose he is still the best tennis player to come our of Britain to date

I must admit that Sporty and Tamand are correct. We had Tim 'almost made it' Henman who my husband and I used to watch and wait to see if there was this extra hunger about his game but it never really showed. He was at the time the best player Uk had but there was always something missing. Murray, to date has shown that hunger but when it comes to the big events, it seems to waver. I sincerely hope he wins (and I am not scottish either), he is the best player uk has had in a long while, why else would he be No 2 in the world. Does it matter that Nadal was injured? No, because this is a cycle in any sports where top players go up and down, Federer lost his top slot due to injury for a while.

I hope Murray wins a grand slam soon, he has more success in the ATP tours than any other UK tennis player to date and he is only 22yrs.

PS I am really chuffed that Kim is back, she beat Venus Williams last night so there will not be a Williams final!!

Moon raker post 36 where do you get your information, while I agree that Federer is up there among the greatest, you seem to know little, Federers missus had twins a few weeks ago

And A POINT TO PONDER Andy murray is ahead of where Federer was at a comparable age

Tamand..message 45.

Hi,

What exactly are you querying ?.

At the time of writing my last message (25th. June 09) prior to the end of Wimbledon ,Roger Federer had won 14 grand slam mens' singles events. He went on to win at Wimbledon so it now stands at 15.

Please Google Roger Federer, then Wickipedia to check this out if you don't believe me.

His twin daughters were born on 23rd. July, a month after I posted my last message.

To date Andy Murray has still not won a grand slam event though the US could be his first. I wish him luck !

tamand MSG 45.

Why don't you read the dates that messages are posted. This thread started back in June ! Why does poor old Moonraker know little ? His facts look right to me.

I'll keep pondering till Murray wins a Grand Slam event.

Not far ... the answer to the original question.

He was, unfortunately, knocked out by number 16 seed Cilic last night!

Vincent .... keep pondering!!

Keeping on the tennis thread though not Murray;

Kim Clisters won again yesterday and she has had 2 years off having a family and only been back playing the last month, doesn't really say much for the quality of top womens players. I hope she can get to the final.

I am going to watch Melanie Oudin tonight ... although she is American for those who have not been watching, she is only 17yrs and has managed to knock out No 4 seed Dementiava, Sharapova and Petrova.
