My pool pump is very noisy again & it sounds like the bearings are going ( 3rd set this year). No, they are going as the pump is red hot.

Every time they go it costs me 60ytl to get it fixed.

I have been taking it to the pump place just past starling on the right as you head into Lapta.

Is there anywhere else I can take it as I don't think these people seem to know what they are doing or are just replacing one bearing at a time. I have a good mind to take it back but probably get the shrug of the shoulders treatment.

I'm in Lapta - probably a bit far - wouldn't mind traveling but I'm a bit pushed for time as I'm going away at the weekend

Hi jimmy,

You could try Siba, Alsancak, down road on left coming from Lapta I think ?

Someone else may give you directions, hopefully.

Save you a lot of time.

Good luck.

Hi,

I think that the main reason for bearing failure is usually the water seal on the motor shaft leaking.

Some makes of pumps appear to be worse than others for this problem - the cheaper Turkish made ones particularly - e.g. 'Water Fun' for one...

If the shaft starts getting corroded, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain a good, watertight seal on the revolving shaft, leading to repeated bearing failure...

The pump man (Press Teknik) might perhaps have pointed this out to you, rather than repeatedly trying to 'patch it up' and keep it running - sometimes you do just need 'tough love', and to be advised to 'buy a new one'.

Having said that, they are pretty good, and if you ask him straight out, he will probably recommend a better brand, and with a bit of 'persuasion' offer you a reasonable discount for your troubles!

Mention 'Cyprus 44', 'Noel Baba', ME, whatever it takes!

Do let us know how you get on.

Keith.

gates,

You're right - some Builders / Pool companies are just cheapskates (not you!) and spend the absolute minimum on equipment, leaving the customer with a legacy of future maintenance problems.

It's always best to spend a bit more and buy quality in the first place - if you are given the choice!

What make is your pump? If it's a cheap brand you might want to stop throwing good money after bad and replace it with a good brand. We stock Calpeda (Italian) pumps and they are one of the best. Bear in mind that you will probably have to change the pipework layout which will involve cutting and glueing.

guess what, took it back to the pump man, just put it on & it sounds nearly as bad.

It's a good job I haven't got a shotgun handy :-( :-(

He quoted me £350 for a new one - I'd rather swim in a green pool than give it them - shall i put this in the rip off thread

Astral is a good brand and Victoria is a common model here. Go to SIBA next to Pine Bay Club and they will give you one over the counter. They are Astral importers and will do you a good price. 350 quid is probably a bit more than you need to pay them. You can fit it yourself if you got the old one off.

Good luck.
