I wonder if anyone out there would be kind enough to help out a former KKTC resident? I'm heading to the green island in July to check out properties and am looking for personal reccomendations of the top five or so places to buy. I used to live in Magosa about a decade ago so know the island but have not seen any of the recent developments. Ideally am looking for a place which I can use in winter/off season-pref not something high rise & vast-prefer Girne area but not particular. Is there anything low-scale that might appeal-I've got a couple of weeks to look around and a reasonable budget-not bothered about investment potential. I've gleaned a bit from reading posts here but would appreciate the benefit of your expertise.

dusty,

First things first are you bothered about buying a property with no risk of subsequent legal action to recover it? In other words do you know most of the property in north Cyprus belongs to Greek Cypriot refugees who have not given permission to sell?

theres lots available ...plenty of god deals and choices , i suggest you just go from agent to agent look at their books and see as many as possible .... and depending on your confidence decide which kind of title deed you want , if u want peace of mind buy pre 74 turkish , if your not bothered like me buy whatever you like

Why buy? If you are only going to visit in winter/off season, why have the hassle of owning a property? I'd say rent as and when you want. Lots of properties for rent at bargain prices, especially off season. Agree with your stance as to not being bothered about investment potential, not a lot of that about in NC.

Ilovekibris.....

according to your profile, you live in KIBRIS.....KIBRIS is a turkish word......everytime i come on here, you have something negative to say about NORTH KIBRIS.....

This is a forum for NORTHERN KIBRIS....so why dont you just shut up and go away, many of us are fed up with your opinions, yes you are entitled to them...but who wants to bloody hear them....not me for sure.....

As for greek cypriots not giving permission to sell, well i aint given permission for gc to live in my properties in the south.....(and i have photos of the properties in 74 and today...lookes like a bloody ruin now) and verbally abuse my family when they have gone to see our properties.

Am totally fed up with it, everytime i come on this forum for information or anything else, you pop up with your S--t......

Get a life and then you might have a more productive day

dustyrhodes - very personnel but once you arrive you will find so many to choose from.

Mountain retreat, town or sea front, the choice is phenomenal.

And this is North Cyprus, the best side.

Great people, awesome peacefull and non bastardised.

Value for money, Strong Turkish Lira as apposed to the Euro.

Even cheaper, the old Greek stone shacks. Although no one touches them.

Dustyrhodes,

Your question was completely valid and in point. I do so hope you have not picked up a bad impression of this forum as there are some tremendously lovely, helpful, generous and accommodating people on it.

They give good advice. Some crack amazingly funny jokes. Others educate. Certain people socialise and party. Others are completely selfless....you would need to read the posts where people have offered fantastic offers of practical help and go out of their way to help others. It makes me so proud of Humankind.

BUT there are certain forum members who will only come out when the issue is one of controversy, politics and property.

When they do come out ...you really have to wonder how on earth any settlement is ever going to be reached. If the will of the people is not for peace and reconciliation ..it will be a torturous road indeed!!!!!

I am sorry I don't have enough experience to advise but my advice is. Listen to the ones who don't interrogate

Dustyrhodes,

I will apologise for the idiots on here who incidentally did not answer your question, they were too engrossed in their petty squabbles they probably forgot the question.

My advise if you are here for a while hire a car, drive around yourself and see what is on offer, talk to people already living on the sites they will tell you honestly good or bad builder. Go into the local hostelry's and talk to the expats and then you will get a good idea of life in Kibris. If you can buy a resale as usually all problems ironed out and water and electricity already installed which will save you a few pounds.

Err, no. The first reply to him brought up the crucial subject of property title. This is rather important to most sensible property investors. As the Orams case points out.

You poor man....straight out of bed and on to the forum. your misses must share the blame here. YOU need more sleep. I suppose this will be again a full weekend sitting at your pc fuelled with paranoia. I shall be going out soon, unable to get around solo at present.

Last night you seemed to loose it on all fronts, so many users ticking you off........surely they can not all be wrong. bringing up a watchmans hut and the Kapparis Kid made me realise you were in no fit state of mind and I wihdrew to save you from making a further fool of yourself.

sit back in your chair and reflect on your behaviour........you will hopefully see where you are going wrong.

Well, that's quite a response & some useful comment in there-the north is obviously home to some folks with an opinion or two-thanks to people who did actually answer my question - plenty to think about. At the mo my feeling is that the Greek land will have to go back - it's just a feeling and it does change with the wind but I would prefer Turkish pre 74 deeds-am I right in thinking there is only one development in Guzelyurt which fulfills this criteria? Anyone got any thoughts on Guzelyurt? Only been a couple of times and just remember the strawberries. Can I also point out that I am not a man-this seems lost on a few people !

Answer.

Greek Cypriots will deprive the house?

You sick?

No one can take away.

The island has a lot of Russians.

Russian many buy a house.

War.

Russian never surrender or death.

ilovekibris - shot himself in the head. Go to Southern Cyprus.

Turkey and Russia - the brothers.

I think it very sad that a thread should disintergrate in such a way. Why did the moderators not step in?

I think that Cyprus 44 in itself shows Cyprus will never be reunified.

Not quite sure what you are trying to say but Russia and the Greek Cypriots are old allies and united under Orthodox religion. Russians have invested and holiday on the south side in huge numbers. Hardly any have anything to do with the Turkish side so you must be the exception.

Rowlo, I suppose paranoia about Greek things comes with the territority but maybe no one else spotted "the Greek connection" cos there isn't one-Rhodes isn't just the name of Rodos -it's an English name eg Rhodes as in Rhodesia. There is a joke somewhere but zip to do with the island of.
