Barnaclebill,

I hope you have a great day, don't worry we will be thinking of the troops at home and in foreign places and will give a thought for the ones that are no longer with us but died for Queen and country. Glad they are now getting recognition. And as you say God Bless them all.

Yes...At last the government is prepared to listen to those who support the armed forces. But why has it taken so long ? Is it because they've had such a beating in the polls ?

I think Joanna Lumleys fight with the Government over the Ghurkas brought a lot of attention back to the eye of the general public with regard to our forces.

That and there is a lot more reality programmes on TV showing us the sterling job they do on our behalf.

This day has been around for years, used to be called Veterans Day, but it has now been changed to Armed Forces Day especially to include those currently serving, I think this has worked as there seems to have been a lot more enthusiasm in celebrating this day now.

I'm an ex serviceman having been in Aden,Cyprus,Germany,N Ireland and of course England.

Please note that it is the MOD who decide what money is spent and where!!

And however much was spent in this day and age it probably still would not be sufficient to fully support all the theatres of "war" in which we are currently involved.

And furthermore servicemen and ex servicemen have always been undervalued by the people of the UK.

So please stop bleating - we all new what we were getting into - and would mostly do it all over again.

If there were more doers and fewer talkers ( generally ) the world would be a better place and maybe there would'nt be so many conflicts in the first place to waste money and lives on.

hi littlejohn i agree with you but I take my hat off to the brave women and men serving today. I am a soldiers daughters and lived in all the places you mentioned.I do not think they are undervalued by the public now a days. I guess you ask any ex service man to do it again and they would jump at it xxxx

Hi Lilli, you are quite right about asking any ex service personnel to have their military service all over again they would certainly jump at the chance, I know I for one would given the opportunity. Having served in some wonderful places around the world and some of the experiences (good and bad) I would not mind doing another stint. I don't know if people realise how difficult it can be adjusting to civvy street.
