Hi All,
On our site we have 3 large pools and the pumps appear to be on 24 hours a day. Can any of you experts tell me if this is necessary or can the time they are on be altered. Our electricity bills are high and we are trying to see how we can save money and the environment.

I can't answer your question exactly as we are in the uk at the moment but our pumps do not work through the night, what the timers are set on at the moment is shorter than in the summer months. Hope this helps, the pool company set the timers.

Our pumps are all on timers which are bult in to the system. There is a switch for 'automatic' where the pumps come on periodically, 'manual' where they are on constantly and 'off' where it is permanently off (obviously !!) I believe this is pretty standard on most pool kit. For communual pools they may leave the pump on during heavy usage (summer days ?) but I would have thought automatic would be fine for the nights and winter months.
Hope that helps.

I agree with Perry, in the summer under heavy use the pumps may need to run for most of the day, but I doubt all the time, but out of season you may only need a few hours aday

Your communual pool should be on for about 3 to 4 hours a day in the winter when no one is using it, and about 8 hours a day in the summer.

Maybe a little longer if it is being used all day.
