I went to this farce of an event yesterday..20 acts of which about 5 were good..

1..Duffy

2..Will Young

3..Doris Day

4..Shirley Bassey (the drag version)

5..Mark Knopfler

The winner was Duffy and well deserved..a very attractive young girl with a lovely voice. Runner up was a screeching version of Celine Dion ..burst my already battered eardrums. Third an absolutely atrocious version of Bjork..that made me realise what a total farce this whole event was...

Noone apart from Duffy deserved to be in the first 3.

Will Young was superb and when I closed my eyes I couldnt tell the difference between him and the real thing..should have been joint first with Duffy.

Our very own Sara P was Doris day and she was superb as well, took the time and effort to look like DD as well.

The paying public should have had some say in the voting, not just 5 so called judges.

The Simena hotel must have made an absolute fortune from this event and the prize money was laughable..600lir

that's about £250 and less for the runners up altho the other two didn't deserve a thing.

The drag Shirley Bassey was funny and deserved more praise..as did Mark Knopfler, great guitar playing.

My choice would have been..joint first Duffy and Will Young..second SaraP and third between Mark Knopfler and Shirley Bassey..

Some say ppl in the TRNC couldn't run a bath and this proved to be true at this event.!!

Travesty total travesty!!

Actuall smithy, you missed a good evening.

The sound wasn't at it's best, mostly because the wind was spoiling the accoustics, (well, I think that's how they described it, lol)

If I'd have tried to perform, there really would have been reason to pass adverse comments!!!!!!believe me.

Heather...Celine dion, had never performed before on stage, because of work, she even missed the rehearsal.

Ruth........is a mum, runs a home, runs an excellent restuarant, and hasn't sang on stage before.

I think they were marvelous, and put on a blimin' good show, well done all of you.

Come on, please, if everyone expects the 'x' factor, then I suggest a one way ticket to UK.

without these people, there wouldn't be a show.

Look forward to next year.

I do believe in freedom of speech etc etc etc but why do you spend most of your time SLAGGING people off,ie,charity fundraisers, kibrisline dancers, very brave folk who stand up in front of an audience and in your opinion sing badly. Is your life out here so awful,do you need someone to talk to.Chill out.

Chinaeyes I dont have a problem with anyone getting up and singing, christ I make a dreadful noise at my own bbq I am complaining about the judging..it was a travesty and certainly not fair..I actually thought bjork was funny but not worthy of 3rd place...there were others who were good who were just ignored...

From someone who at the age of 6 when auditioning for the school play was told by my teacher 'you have the voice of a frog'.I applaud anyone who gets up there on stage whether it be karaoke ,lambousa etc and performs, and also the guys for organising such an event. Well done.

Hi Dee, missed you on Friday. Hope you were ok.

Out of interest who were the judges? Just interested to learn what qualified them any more than anyone in the audience?

Two of the judges were members of 112 committee who work bloody hard for this country and they gave their time freely, instead of moaning because your chosen act didn't win why not try giving some of your time and doing something constructive for a change.

Jeez most of you miss the point, the acts all deserve a round of applause, the judging should have been up to the public..it was a grossly unfair affair....

Actually there were only 4 judges and the prize money was 400tl for the winner, 200tl for second place and I believe a meal for two at Simena for third place. 600tl was given to the 112 charity.

There were problems with the sound, where were you sitting Dee? - maybe this is why you thought some acts were worse than they actually were - I personally think the judges got the winner and runner up correct though not sure about third as it was more comedic value than likeness to the star.

As others have said, a lot of people worked very hard and raised money for a very worthwhile cause.

There is little enough entertainment on this island and then when people go to the trouble of organising a *fun* day they get slated, why don't we just stick to Danny Fisher and Brian Delaney, they really pulled the punters in didn't they.

Incidentally, if ever you need the ambulance service and you get an ambulance which is fully equipped with trained paramedics you can thank 112 for the effort they make on your behalf.

The other two judges were `the performer` Johnny be Good and Bobby Sands` wife. It should have been him but he had another engagement.

For the record, I was simply enquiring as to whether those who were judging the musical talents of others were necessarily the best people for the job. The performers no doubt worked very hard to make their contribution to this event and surely they deserve to be judged by people who understand the task in hand. No-one is slagging off the 112 committee or service - quite the contrary! They do a wonderful job, and many of us, myself and Dee included support them in whatever way we can.

As Dee said, maybe the point of this thread has been missed.

As regards the comment about there being little entertainment in this island, there are a number of very high quality acts here but sadly, the venues often will let them down at last minute or worse still not actually advertise the fact that XYZ show is on when they promise that they will. And of course there are plenty of people who complain about there being no entertainment who then don't support what there is!

Kitty1 (message20) is obviously doing her best to support her friend deecyprus4 who has put her foot in in big time.

Question for deecyprus4 . As you have given so much support for sarah p...is she a friend or neighbour?

We thoroughy enjoyed the evening ( even the kids did !)) thought the judges were fair.

Well done to the contestants and organisers

Perhaps at the next one we can get Simon Cowell to do the judging if it's such a problem, and the fee paying public ( was it 2.5 or 5 tl) feel robbed I'm sure he will discuss it with them.

Seathestars, anyone who who has been on this forum for more than 5 minutes will know that I usually have a very balanced view of things and do not look for controversy. I never implied the judges were unfair. And at no point did I slag anyone off - the contestants, the organisers, anyone!

Just asked a simple question and then backed my question up with a very reasonable argument. I think you will find that's what most posters do on this forum.

Dee,

I am surprised you stayed to the end thought you would need your beauty sleep to get up early and start slagging the event.Just as well you didnt judge Mark Knofler wasn't actually playing the guitar ( although he can very well).

This event was 5 weeks of hard planning and was changed 3 days before again more work needing sorting out. The wind was atrocious which affected the whole event.

Wether the acts are good, bad or indifferent at least they had the guts to enter. They all deserve a great amount of credit, they certainly dont need people like you deflating their confidence.

For your information Mike plant (112) has been around the entertainment industry for most of his life.

Unfortunatley due to people like yourself we had very few offers of sponsorship, thus reflecting in the prizes.

Friends kindly donated raffle and money prizes. (see there are some good people here)

I think you totally miss the point it was a fun event that was enjoyed by around 400 people,

Well we missed this, but do get the point.and it could have been quite easy for everyone to vote.If were given three little bits of paper, vote 1st 2nd 3rd....all the judges had to do then was count them in neat little piles.Fair Play then.!!

easy or what.!!

and just a few hundred YTL for 112..come on.!!! seams like it was packed.car park overload could 112 not have been given even a mere 1000.00.YTL.????? OH.and just a thought, any Donations given to 112,from all the onlookers.????

Good show or not.Fair Play seems was not the order of the day....112 DO A GRAND JOB...and its all FREE TIME.

Dee,

I hope you have finished slagging the event off now!! enough!! maybe you can do one and we can all slate you off.

Hope the people who will have fewer events to go to wont be too annoyed with you..

Spider,

The audience did not see all the acts due to various late times of turning up, so would not be fair to judge.

Some contestants had 40 or so family members there, who would they vote for? GET THE POINT

This isnt the TV where the audience are in place from the start and they have nice little buttons to press.

OK Dee, if it is left to the public then obviously the one with the most friends and family there to cheer them on and make the most noise is going to be the winner, but not necessarily the best.

Was entry Free.?? Shame on the event then.as that money could have gone to 112.

and even if 10 friends voted for the worst.Hay get the point.they would have just had that 10 votes, and LOST..

and people who were late....well simple they could just vote for the ones they HEARD....No little buttons needed.!!

Fair or Not.....Was this a public event, and to raise money for 112.???????????????

I would just like to say, that I thought this event went really well,it took a lot of hard work and time to organise and perhaps if the likes of Dee and Spider had made a contribution to the event, then they have every right slating, whoever, but typical Brits, love knocking people down. Well done to Sandra and Peter for all your hard work and well done Simena.

Floss.....fair say.....and i did not knock the hard work...I think Dee did make her contribution. My thoughts are what i said.perhaps a little more money could have been raised, for 112...and the punter could have had a say in who won.

Perhaps if people can give FEEDBACK.future event holders may consider constructive FEEDBACK...

I am sorry i did not attend,But Hay,my feedback is on what i read.Thats what this Forum is for.

Spider,

constructive feedback is great if justified. We worked our sock of since early doors, battling tarpaulins, searing heat, moving tables, printing and selling tickets. I was stopped in mid crisis as an act failed to turn up and was rushing to sort out, only to be stopped and told my chips are cold. That says it all to me.

We always take notice of suggestions of which many were put into place from last year.

The forum is a great place for info but unless you attend an event dont take one persons comments as reason to agree.

Well done sags and everyone else involved...Hay,at what point did i agree with DEE,...all i was saying is that i would,if i had attended, wanted to put my vote, for who i would have felt deserved to win....and if i came late and missed the best,my vote would not have mattered.!!!

And again i feel that such a big event as i turned out to be.at least could have raised a little more money for 112..

I am sure as the day gets longer others will post and have their say...end off.

Please lets all remember too that 112.work free.every day,and we may need them.

Wow! I came out here to retire, there is an obvious need for 112 to offer free blood pressure checks to quite a lot of people. Yes, we have been around design and theatre land for most of our lives. My daughter has had a twenty year career as an actress and now lives in South America. My sister had a great career in the theatre and her commercial pinnacle was in Allo Allo! The one thing all of us have to appfreciate in the performing arts business is that you have to learn to cope with someone saying to you that you haven't got the job! Auditions and pitching for work is not easy - it's a labour of love both in the amateur and professional world and quite often it doesn't seem fair. Pete and Sandra and their team did a splendid job and it was a complete surprise to us that we were the nominated charity. I think we should all reflect that we are a very small community and it would be nice for us all to pull in the same direction. Pete and Sandra deserve better. Mike 112

Only managed to catch the last 8 acts.......

But would just like to say well done to all the contestants, who put on a great show. People should remember they are only amateurs. Emma was brilliant as Duffy, and I'm sure she has a musical career to look forward to. A beautiful voice and a very relaxed performance.

Also, Sandra and Peter did a great job organising the event, and the lighting rig organised by Wade David was great.

If I had to offer any advice for next year, I would have liked to have seen Pete a little better dressed, (as Compere). Sorry Pete, just had to mention that. Love you really !!!!

Well done to all involved.

The event was 5 lira entrance fee which I thought was fair. The raffle tickets were 5 lira a strip. Hopefully, all monies being donated. Well done to Club Simena for keeping bar prices the same, well appreciated. The acts were absolutely brilliant. Ok, some were not as professional as others but they all did a great job. I thought Ruth as Bjork was brilliant. She had taken the time to look like Bjork & her performance was spot on. She gave a fantastic performance as Sally Bowles in the spring show for Choruslambousa, Emma, who won, is a newish member of Choruslambousa, & also gave a fantastic performance at the same show, she has an amazing voice! The only downside was the length of the interval & time it took to do the raffle, well over an hr & a half?

On the whole, a great show & such a refreshing change from the usual karaoke, singers in the bars/restaurants.

Once again most of you have missed the bloody point, dont know how many times I have to say this..

ALL THE ACTS DESERVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE..THE JUDGING WAS DREADFUL..

infact all those judges will do is get rid of the real talent who won't bother next year ..all there will be is the rubbish and no sponsors then and no customers...but most of you don't seem to understand that!

deecyprus4 in your first post all you did was slag the event, the simenna, the screaming contestants and the judges. when the replys started coming and you did not get the feedback what you were expecting you started slagging forum members off. meassage 30 wind your neck in meassage 50 according to one of my neighbours nige you are nothing but a piss head meassage 51 accuse nige of drink driving. all nige pointed out and did not name anyone he in fact praised the whole event. as for your gossip from your neighbour that nige is a piss head i hope nige sees you in court for slander and deffimation of his good character. me and mr bogeyman thought it was great even the bad ones gave us a laugh well done and i would be glad to help and make a donation to next year

Maybe it is because of the photo I posted of Nige asleep? He was NOT drunk at the Sempati, he had been up since 5am!

What in hell`s name has Nigel got to do with a (what was) lovely day`s entertainment after a lot of people put their hearts and souls into 5 hours of solid entertainment for a mere 5ytl?!!!!! There`s always one isn`t there who wants to throw a spanner in the works. Sandra, Pete and everyone that contributed you did a good job. Unless she is prepared to organise one of these events herself, she has no right to criticise.

As one who has been involved in past years elsewhere organising similar and different types of events, I know what degree of is involved with those concerned, bearing in mind they were normally non profit making events arranged by people who were simply trying to create some enjoyment for others looking for a good night out, as is here and now, what is done is not the X FACTOR.

I used to enjoy looking into Cyprus 44 for constructive information, nowadays it has degenerated into slagging matches most of the time, regardless of the topic and those who do so, once challenged revert to defending their initial posting by claiming freedom of speech, my question is why is it always the same people who always try to pull something down and never ever praise?

I think it is time the Moderators got rid of those concerned, and everyone knows who they are, or it will not be long before there is no Cyprus 44 Forum, I for one am disgusted with some peoples postings, as are many others.

I'm a bit confused. I was reading these postings about the 'stars in their eyes' as I was not able to attend and hoped to catch up on what I missed. The comments were interesting and informative until it suddenly descended into chaos - namely the accusations and name calling. What's going on and why is it necessary to air personal gripes on this forum?

Come on Dee reveal who you are.

Your wasting your time Dee will not reveal who she/he is, they can only speak badly on the forum, because they can hide behind it.they have not got the guts to reveal who they are.

Exactly, if the Moderators made it impossible to do this we could stop this nonsense.

The comments dont seem very female though, so I can only guess its a male.

Message 69 "Nige, why get up at 5am to go "out and about" and have a Chinese meal?"

I think Nige was up at 5am to pick someone up from the airport, then was "out and about" in the south, he went for the Chinese at dinner time.

Nige another threat from you, and strangely enough I have your details and trust me I will report you..I repeat if you want to threaten me come and do it face to face..

What's more nige, when this person was consistently slagging you off, I defended you even tho I have never met you because she is a spiteful gossip and I didn't believe all she was saying but now I think she was probably telling the truth about you!!! Incidently you know her quite well as you have been to functions together!

Moderators. I think we`ve had enough of this slagging match. I think the parties concerned should take this up in private. I really dont want to come on here reading this rubbish. This thread is about Stars in Their Eyes and I looked at it to get some feedback.

This thread has now had 1111 viewings at the last count. I'm sure that enough people have made up their minds as to who is the instigator of all the problems.

Do you think hasan1 & deecyprus4 are the same person?

Dee - maybe you feel justified by saying it was the judging you was criticising, but I dont feel your comments such as 'screeching version of Celine Dion' was very nice. Nor is your attack on Nige - who you have never even met. You refered to someone else as a spiteful gossip - so what does that make you??

The winner was Duffy and well deserved..a very attractive young girl with a lovely voice. Runner up was a screeching version of Celine Dion ..burst my already battered eardrums. Third an absolutely atrocious version of Bjork..that made me realise what a total farce this whole event was...

If this is not slagging off the contestants but only the judges I must be missing something. Actually maybe the judges were listening the the appaulse that contestants got to evaluate who should win 1st 2nd and 3rd well deserved. Abviously dee wont be going next year because it was a farce, or maybe she would like to volunteer her services for next year!!!!!

Well done to all concerned, the effort that went into this event was hugh. And if anyone thinks they can have 7 hrs of entertainment for 2.00 pounds (5tl). I like to know where!!!!

May I take this opportunity of correcting a rumour that is doing the rounds.

Yes, the winner is a member of ChorusLambousa, but none of the judges has, or has had, any relationship whatsoever with ChorusLambousa.
