The last time I went there was no flag out-side, is this not compulsory? I am referring to the one in the North.

I will be going again this week and if it's not there I will mention it to them, especially as the building is already not so easy to find as it is, but I thought where there is a consulate you must have the flag representing the country out-side?

Actually, as stated on the website and having been there, the one in the North is an actual British consulate not a branch (?) there is one in the north of Cyprus and one in the South as I know,

even the Turkish people with me commented that there should have been a flag out-side the consulate, it was just a friendly question and I was curious, I didn't expect to have such a rude answer!

& actually, just to humour you, I would need to put up 3 flags out-side my house if I wanted to represent the nationality of its' inhabitants as I have dual nationality British-Italian and my fiance is Turkish.

There is an underground tunnel under the 'Green Line' which links the Consulate in Shakespeare Ave. to the Embassy on the the South side! The lack of Flag might be due to current international war politics acting with sensitivity.

By the way,if it was not a branch to the embasy in south, why on earth would every application have to be approved or disapproved in south? But my comments are only assuming (Ido have a rather dry sense of humour)

The building I am referring to is not the British council which is round the corner by the way and the prices for Visas are now in Turkish lira.

I understood there was only a British High Commission here in the North. As the TRNC is not recognised it cannot have a Consulate or an Embassy.

OK,

The official title of the British "Embassy" in Cyprus is the *British High Commission* ... Why? .. Well, it's because the RoC is a British Commonwealth member. So this applies in Oz, NZ, etc., too.

Hi Nataless,

It is not true that all embassies have to display their flag. I live in a road in London where there are at least six embassies. Three show their flag and three don't, one does not even have a name plate on the door or gate.

Hi the Butlers wife, that is news to me, I am also from London and have always seen the flags especially out-side the consulates and embassies and a name plate on the door!

I thought this was compulsory, maybe not, will investigate as am now intrigued!

mmm True it is known as the High Comission but acts and provides services as a consulate, the one in the north is not a British Commonwealth member! I guess it's because this is the TRNC..everything is different here! Am going to give up wondering on this one! Will be there this week, perhaps they can enlighten me!

thanks everyone!

I still think your best option will be to put one up at your house
